In my spare time, I have been working on a new site called Hitsmit.
Hitsmit (http://www.hitsmit.com) is a healthcare technology news site
that employs non-hierarchical editorial control. Unlike the major HIT
news sites, Hitsmit lets the users control the content and what gets
published for review by the user community. Users submit (smit) the
news and vote (hit) on queued news. Based on popularity, the news will
then be published to the front page. The site is loosely based on the
extremely popular Digg technology site. The difference with Hitsmit is
that rather than only linking to already published content, users can
also write their own editorial (blog) content. The content is also
specifically focused on healthcare technology.

I also run the healthcare IT forum (http://www.healthcareitforum.com).
The intent of the forum was to provide a place where users could
support vendor apps themselves. In the process, I added news and blog
feeds which gained popularity. Unfortunately it took away from the goal
of the forum. To satisfy the news/blog momentum, I created hitsmit so
each site could remain focused on their individual purpose.

I believe strongly in the power of the social network and hope people
will check out the sites. I do not want to take away from the work done
here by Shahid and other popular sites like HIStalk. I read both often.
I simply feel that the more exposure we can give the healthcare
technology community, the better healthcare technology will become.
