Esophagitis without reflux several years after LNF ?
Hi all,

this a question for the Drs in the group.

I had a Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication for a Hiatal Hernia 10 years
ago.

Within the last month I started experiencing chest pains that resembled
heart related pains from what I read. One day they were so severe I
had to go to the hospital.

An ECG was done, x-rays were done, blood lab tests were done.
The physician on duty at the time and a cardiologist on duty checked me
out and concluded that there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my
heart.

I asked my physician is what I am feeling could be related to the
hernia/surgery I had; his answer was . do you have reflux? . then,
no, can't be related.

The symptoms I'm experiencing now seem to be similar to the symptoms of
esophagitis I had years ago before the surgery: chest pressure, chest
pains, throat feels closing .
it also feels like there's is an inflamation on my left side of the
thorax under the rib cage, just under the heart.
I DON:T have any reflux at all -at least until now- and so far I have
no problem swallowing either.

My questions is:

Is it possible to have esophagitis without reflux being present in my
specific situation?

Thanks.

Sounds suspiciously like recurrent reflux disease. The appropriate next
diagnostic steps would be an EGD. If that is negative, ambulatory pH
testing, and probably esophageal manometry would be next up.
