For myself, this is how my current AD's help - but please be aware that
YMMV.
Celexa helps me be calmer and to get less upset. It also helps with
worrying too much. When I'm depressed I tend to think about the same little
problems and worry about them over and over again --- like my mind in racing
around in a rat wheel {you know -the ones pet rats race around in?) So
-
Celexa's good for that.
However, Celexa doesn't relieve all my symptoms of depression -- I still
had no energy, was very apathetic, life seemed gray and hopeless. So the
doctors added Wellbutrin.
Together, this combination works well for me. Wellbutrin is energizing,
while the Celexa helps to prevent too much anxiety and fear.

{PS: I am Bipolar, so my antidepressants have to be balanced with mood
stabilizers. My worst problems are with depression rather than mania. I am
on Tegretol, and was just recently put on Seroquel to help me sleep better.
The neat thing about Seroquel is that is not only helps bring you down from
a manic episode, in my case it keeps my sleep cycle regular and seems to
augment the AD's effectiveness. IMHO, its not a drug I'd ask the doctor to
try initially - it can have some serious side effects you have to watch for.
Plus it can effect your ability to drive. Right now, I'm having to decide
whether I should start taking the bus rather than drive myself.]
