Did my shellfish allergy go away?
I don't remember being allergic to shellfish when I was a kid. It all
started when I was about 15 years old or so. In one party I ate some
crab legs and other things, and some minutes later I felt some swelling
in my lips. I didn't know what happened and it all passed a few
minutes later. In another party several months later, I ate crab legs
again, and sure enough, I felt some swelling in my lips, and the back
of my throat was itchy. That time I only had eaten crab legs so I
could identify it immediately.
A similar problem happened when I ate shrimps, although not as fast. I
could eat a few shrimps and I only felt little bumps in my lips.
During the years I kept eating shrimps once in a while, and felt the
little itching here and there, always with an anti-allergic medicine on
hand just in case, but never took it.
Now, in the last few years, I haven't felt anything with shrimps. I
also tried lobster.. nothing. I haven't tried crabs yet, but is it
possible that the allergy went away with my sporadic shrimp eating?

There is an allergy to shellfish that only occurs when it's consumed
with alchohol. Is it possible that this is true in your situation?

Hmm.. I don't know it could be, as normally I only eat shellfish in
social gatherings (as I don't buy it for myself) and there is always
alcohol involved, but lately since I started the South Beach Diet I'm
not drinking alcohol. I'll give it another try one of these days
without alcohol and see how it goes.
