Chiangmai Ram Hospital has reported another case of a young girl
fracturing her cervical spine during a Hathayoga course in
Chiangmai.
This is the third such case that has occurred in Chiangmai and the
girl is likely to be permanently paralyzed in the left arm.
People who are at a low ebb in their lives and looking for a 'new
path' are for some reason signing up for Hathayoga courses, with bogus
instructors without any real credentials and without any idea of what
they are signing up for. Students should realise that any 'genuine'
instructor from the west, would probably be teaching Hathayoga in
their own country.
It seems that Thailand is easy pickings for any person with a little
knowledge, a good mouth and a phony certificate which is readily
available at Khao Sarn Road for 500 Baht. These people gain an illegal
income from any unsuspecting individual who is suffering and needs
help.
Before you commit your money (and your neck) to any Hathayoga course
in Chiangmai, ask yourselves, why would a foreigner be teaching yoga
in a country that pays very little, other than they would not possibly
be able to work in their own country?
If you need yoga or meditation then seek out some of the friendly
monks in the temples of Chiangmai.
If you are worried about language problems then be reassured that this
is not a problem, the monk will certainly guide you on the right path
it costs very little and they will certainly leave your cervical spine
in tact!
