Re: To know the truth
I posted the following words on a Buddhist newsgroup, but it pertains
to this discussion as well.

Newsgroups: talk.religion.buddhism

"The mind is the brain alive and functioning. A brain that is dead is
still a brain, but it has no mind. The thinking function of the
brain-mind is just one of many functions. The brain controls autonomic
body functions and has many subconscious functions that even the
"enlightened" cannot feel. It is like a computer system. You see what
is on the screen, but there is much going on that is never and can
never be projected on the screen.

The term "Don't know mind" is excellent because it describes how you
feel when you turn off the conscious thinking function of the brain.
The brain is still there, the mind is still alive, but conscious
thoughts come at such a slow pace, with spaces in-between, that you
feel NO THOUGHT. Gurus get confused and think this means they have no
ego. They do and we all do. Without an ego function taking care of us
we would die. There is no one inside you that cares about your
survival other than the ego function, and it works whether you feel it
or not. Thus gurus preach egolessness while building up huge bank
accounts, seducing women disciples, and exploiting all those around
them for their own gain.

You have to think and reason to survive physically in this world. When
you get up in the morning you have to decide what to do and what to
eat. If you take a taxi you have to tell the driver where you want to
go. You cannot just say "I don't know!" Thinking and mind are not the
enemy. The trick is to gain the ability to turn on and off the
conscious thinking function of the brain at will. This is a learned
skill and some people are born talented with this ability due to their
brain structure, which is the result of genetics, not any imaginary
"past lives." When you think less the brain saves chemical energy
because when you don't think you use fewer neurotransmitters. Thinking
is an effort and work that requires chemical energy. With more stored
up chemical energy in your brain your consciousness burns brighter and
your brain opens up to new expanded connections. You feel ONE, not
split. Notice I say "one", not one with the universe, because there is
only one, not two objects. Without object and subject you are
consciously one."
