Announcing a new Psychiatric Survivors / Antipsychiatry Group in Denver, CO, USA.
Otherwise Specified is a new psychiatric survivors group in Denver,
Colorado and we're looking for people to help shape our vision.

Our initial meeting will be Tuesday January 25th, 2005 at 7:00 PM.

* Are you looking for alternatives to psychiatry?

* Does your psychiatrist treat you like a broken chemistry set?
* Have your medications made you feel worse, or simply taken away
your spark?
* Have you experienced the dehumanization of a psychiatric hospital?

* Do you suffer from sluggishly progressing schizophrenia?

* Do you consider the treatment of 'mental illness' a form of social
control?

* Do you want to attempt positive social change?

Our first meeting will be downstairs at:

Breakdown Book Collective
1409 Ogden St.
Denver, CO

That's only a few blocks from the state capitol. For directions, visit

We want to explore and educate about alternatives to
psychopharmacology, alternative perspectives on madness, and the
diversity of human experience. We want to empower people to realize
their potential, and know that often this can be done without drugs -
sometimes only without drugs. We want to help people safeguard
themselves against coercive treatment, and to fight coercive treatment
in the courts and public forum.

To do it, we need you. Whether you're recovered, 'insane' and living
fine, or struggling but looking for a better way, we want you.

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, you're either a
smart-XXX or psychiatry has taken a good portion of your life. Isn't it
worth one evening to see the start of something new?

All are welcome. Please come by and help set the vision for Denver's
new anti-psychiatry group.

Please pass this along to anyone who might be interested. Feel free to
make copies, forward online or in e-mail, and post anywhere.

About the Organizer

Otherwise Specified is being founded and organized by a life-long
Denver resident, who has had numerous dealings with the mental health
system.

I was first hospitalized at eight-years-old, and would spend the rest
of my childhood and adolescence trying to get out of the system.
During that time, I was hospitalized several times, at four different
facilities. I have been diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder,
Bipolar Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and eventually an
emerging personality disorder. I've been on medications ranging from
Stelazine to Lithium.

Now, at twenty years old, I have been off medication for four years. I
am a decently successful network engineer.

Rather than keep my mouth shut and pretend none of my experiences ever
happened, I have decided to get active.

Thus, Otherwise Specified is born.
