I have begun a novel and need to do some research. This is probably
the first in a series of questions. If anyone could direct to a more
appropriate newsgroup or site, I would appreciate it.

My novel involves a man whose wife is terminally ill and is being
taken care of at home. A friend of mine who had a family member die at
home told me that the death certificate is obtained from the funeral
home.

1. In Canada or the US, when the doctor arrives to pronounce the
person dead, what sort of report does he or she write up? Do they do
it there on location?

2. If so, where does it go next, and who takes it there?

It's important in the plot that the doctor changes his mind about
cause of death and then rewrites it.

That's all for now. I won't ask any more until I have some basic idea
of how things work.

The story, I should add, takes place in Canada.
