| I just went to my nephrologist for my checkup last week. There is alot
of information in that book that was recommended and I read it too.
However, when I asked the doctor what I could do to lower my bun and
creatinine, he said nothing. My creatinine went from 2.5 to 2.4. and bun
was 59. I was happy with it, but he wasn't. He said over a period of 7
years, it had gone from 1.6 to 2.4 and Ihad 50% use in my kidney
function. I don't know if lowering my protein intake had anthing to do
with it but I am cutting down on red meats.
You should check with your doctor to see what type of disease you have.
We have PKD in our family, and diet does not stop the cysts from forming
in the kidneys. For obvious reasons, watching your diet anyway is good
for you in general. Lowering blood pressure is number 1 in prolonging
kidney disease, and with diabetics, definitely diet control will help.
Before going on a low protein diet, I would be very careful, because if
you do go on dialysis, you could run yourself too low.
Best advice, check with your doctor. Ange
Have a great day!!
