Unlikely; steroids are used to treat proteinuria. Steroids can cause a
marked increase in serum glucose and the problems associated with that,
but steroids themselves do not cause proteinuria.

As I said, I'm unusual - I had a history of kidney problems and
proteinuria that predates the diabetes as well as both T1 and T2
diabetes on both sides of the family, so I was tested for diabetes
frequently (and had passed!)
