Alternate therapy on nephrotic syndrome ?
|
|

| Good day all,
First time I post here, so first, pls pardon any unclear
vocabulary, since it is anyway chinese for me, even in my
native tongue.
One of my neighbour´s daugter, aged 15, suffers from
nephrotic syndrome. The therapy, here, in France, is
corticoids (no effect), and then chimiotherapy, which is
an extrememly heavy thing for a teen. Furthermore, in her case,
it seems (as per French doctors) to be a very speculative treatment.
My question is simple, has anyone heard of any treatment available
in the US or Canada, that could be an alternative to the one
she takes today ?
Any thought/advise is welcome, if there´s the slightest possibility
(with medical nod) to save her from the secondary effects of
chimio.
Thanks in advance.

It depends upon what is causing her nephrotic syndrome. Corticosteroids
and chemotherapy agents are pretty much routine for pediatric nephrotic
syndrome in patients her age for certain diseases, especially
immuno-mediated ones.

In fact,
Doctors here are sure this is not a genetic syndrome
and believe a viral cause.
Anyway, thanks for the answer.

I have a book that was written by a kidney specialist. It's written mainly
for adults that have kidney problems but I did find this information in
the book.
"Coping With Kidney Disease" by Mackenzie Walser, M.D.
"For unknown reasons, young children are often affected [by Neprotic
Snydrome]. Cow's milk protein intolerance is said to cause the nephrotic
syndrome. It is hoped that further studies will be done on the effect on
kidney of possible allergy-inducing proteins in food. Sometimes nephrotic
syndrome disappears entirely after a few months..." page 159
I am not a doctor and am not an expert on kidney disease.

Thanks for this info, Jason.
Since she´s had nothing before, that could be allergy-linked.
I believe the best thing is to take the medicine and see how it goes.
I´ve read also this syndrome is indeed known to sometimes disappear
byt itself.
Thanks again for the info.

Herve,
I hope the medicine solves the problem. I also hope the syndrome disappears
after a few months. I had kidney disease when I was a baby and it disappeared
after a few months. I have not been able to find out how the doctor (at
that time) treated the kidney disease. I am not sure which kidney disease
that I had but it was probably nephrotic syndrome. May God bless you and
the member of your family.
Jason
