| Ok,
I was having a really bad pain in my back about 4 days, lower back to
be exact. I had what looked to be blood in my urine and just an
overall cloudy look. From what I gathered from the internet I assumed
that I had a kidney infection. I then began to take antibiotics that I
had from a previous urinary tract infection and the pain has gone away
a little. The pain is definetly still there but not nearly as bad but
still very annoying. Also it seems that the area where I have the pain
is tender.
I think the antiobiotics are probably working but I don't have many
left. Do I need to goto the ER? What will they prescribe me? I'm
sure they will prescribe me antibiotics but I would also like some pain
medication. My father had been given me lortabs and it has been the
only thing that has brough relief. Is it necessary for me to go? LIke
I said the pain seems less severe now.

Go to the doctor if only to be sure. You may have had the wrong type
or quantity of antibiotics. Only the doctor can run the tests
necessary to determine the problem.

I have had a chronic kidney infection for over 3 years now, and have a
20+ year history of them, so my information is anecdotal, but
well-informed anecdotal.
First, yes, you need to see a doctor. There is no doubt about that. You
need to have the right antibiotic prescribed in the right amount for an
infection go away. You must take all the antibiotics - you should NEVER
have "leftovers." But first a doctor needs to determine that there is an
infection, what is infected, and how best to treat it.
Second, from what you describe - lower back pain, blood in urine - you
may have a kidney infection, you may have a bladder infection. Most
kidney infections hurt in the mid-back and side and the pain is
excruciating, though many times there is no blood visible to the naked
eye. That more common with bladder infections and certain male problems
of the prostate. Only a doctor can tell you for sure, not some anonymous
yahoo on the internet like me. See a doctor before it gets worse.
