| I have primary idiopathic FSGS, very early diabetic nephropthy and
possible Minimal Change disease (per biopsy). I also have scarring on
both lobes from a chronic renal infection I've had for over two years
that so far has not responded to repeated courses of antibiotics or
surgery. I'm a 40-year old chick with *very* low blood pressure.
I've been feeling extra-crappy lately, and my doctor had me tested a
thousand different ways. I got the results; page one was the urinalysis.
Still a significant load of bacteria even though I was on antibiotics at
the time (and no, I didn't contaminate my sample) but good news, I
thought - no protein. I've been nephrotic for 5 years, with about 10
grams/24 hours of protein.
Page two looked pretty good until I got to the GFR, which is now 59. I
realize this is only moderate renal insufficiency, and the high end of
it as well, but I seem to have skipped over Stage 2 completely and I was
dx'd at Stage 1 five years ago. Well, it does explain why I've been
scheduled for an echocardiogram.
As soon as the offices open, I'll be asking all my doctors, but - is it
possible that my GFR may improve if the kidney infection ever clears? Or
to be more general: can GFR improve once an infection is cleared? I know
specifics are impossible, but generalities would be much welcomed.
