Eat less, eat the right foods, and exercise.

Besides dying, you can't. Deal with it.

| OK, being totally serious (and uncynical) now...
Something that I found works for me since I lost my kidneys are cold
tabs (Advil Cold and Sinus is what I take, but there are Motrin and
other brand equivilents). Just 2 in the morning really seem to kill my
appetite (and thus my thirst ) for the day without any other effects.
Something to consider

| Except that ibuprofin is *very* hard on the kidneys and should not be
taken by transplant patients!
To the OP: Avoid sugars... including carbs, but don't go all out
Atkins. Limit the sugar, increase the water, and exercise.
Good advice for anyone!
I've actually managed to lose a few pounds this way! (Woo hoo!)

They think Advil caused my Kidneys to fail ! Transplant patients are
advised to not to take Advil, Motrin or anything else except Tyelenol.
Like anything else check wuith your doctor before taking anything...

Very bad for pre-dialysis patients as well (all NSAIDs are verboten for
me, except for very rare, very short courses of Clinoril, and then only
with constant monitoring).

| I agree with Sam here....... that anything with ibuprophen should be avoided
at all cost if you have any kidney disfunction or a transplant.
When I had a cyst a couple of years ago that had to be removed and was in a
lot of pain my nephrologist was more than willing to give me narcotics for
the pain rather than me take any type of ibuprophen. I turned him down and
stuck it out with the tylenol since I just can't handle any type of
narcotic.
As for the weight gain and food munchies you have to learn to try and get
over the hunger. I know it's hard to do when taking prednisone but I made
up my mind that just because my stomach rumbled that I was only going to eat
regular meals of reasonable size. I have managed to keep my weight right
where it was prior to the transplant give or take 5 lbs. I still have days
where I feel "starved" all day but I know it's the medication that does it
to me that I really don't need the extra food.

| Oh, there hard on the Kidneys, are they? Well Lady, I don't have any!
(I always wonder why they say I have kidney disease, it's like telling
someone who does not own a car that he needs a tune-up) I think that
is the whole point of this board.
Of course, you may have some function left (unlike myself) so true, do
not do anything weird if that is the case!!!!

| NEWSFLASH,,,,,,,,,,,you aren't the only one who's been through it. I don't
have my own damned kidneys either idiot. I do however have a kidney
transplant that is on the verge of failing I have less than 6% good function
left before I go BACK ON dialysis. I've been there before and so don't
think you are the only one who's been through it.
From the sound of it you need to learn to get over the anger and take care
of yourself properly. Yes you don't have any kidneys and your function has
gone to the shitter but let me tell you with you abusing OTC medications
like this the only place you are going to end up is in the dialysis unit
forever. No transplant program will ever take you on as a potential
recipient with this attitude and this kind of abuse. Don't think for one
second that they can't tell what's going on/ If and when you ever try to
list for a transplant they take monthly blood work and it all shows up not
only that I'm sure it's showing up already in the lab work that the unit
draws weekly on you.
