Delane,
The odds aren't very good for getting a kidney this way. You're more
likely to lose your money and not get anything in return. Since
buying organs is illegal in this country, all transplant teams
interview both the donor and recipient to see if there is a relevant
connection between the two - i.e. relative, good friend, etc. There
is a small chance of getting a kidney transplant the way you're
approaching it but the odds are against it.
Good luck to you.

Patience can be a virtue. It took me over four years to fight my way
onto the list and then four years, one month and eighteen days to get
my kidney. I was on hemodialysis eight years and eight months.
Hang in there.

There are many factors as to when you get called among which are HLA
matching, geographical location, age of the recipient, etc. Those
have to be factored into account. The average wait time in the LA
area for my blood type is now over five years. After four years on
the list I received a 1 of 6 match and was told that I was lucky to
have gotten it so soon.
Getting a kidney in two months is unusual. I've seen people wait over
7 years and others listed never get a kidney due to antibody problems.

The higher the match the greater probability of you moving to the top
of the list for a cadaveric kidney. You got lucky.

| Larry, what do you mean you had to fight to get on "the list"???
Dont take your organs to Heaven, G-D knows we need them here.

The first nephrologist I had was the head of the nephrology department
at my local HMO hospital and he told me that since I had a liver
transplant he would not approve me getting on the kidney transplant
list. He said that if I rejected the kidney I would die. I asked for
a second opinion and he got one of his staff nephrologists to give me
the exact same opinion. There were four nephrologists at my dialysis
center that weren't affiliated with my HMO that said I was an
excellent candidate for a kidney transplant but the nephrologist that
had the say so with my HMO continued to deny me. I eventually fought
his denial with the HMO itself and went over his head and was
approved for a kidney transplant by the HMO's senior nephrologist in
Los Angeles. At that point my original nephrologist told me that I
shouldn't be seen at his hospital any longer since my case would be
beyond their ability to treat due to the complexity of dual organ
transplants. In other words he told me to go screw myself and drive
to LA to get treated.
I fought him for over four years and was listed for four years, one
month and eighteen days before I finally received the call that a
kidney was waiting for me.
