Anyone know of any web sites that deal with bodybuilding and dialysis? I
have noticed that getting back into bodybuilding after 4 years oof dialysis
yields poor results so I am wondering what other people have done. Thanks.

I was never a bodybuilder but i have recently started going to the gym
and feel i have to really motivate me to go.

I was attending dialysis along with a guy who was a bodybuilder but was
waiting on a donated kidney from his brother. He was just trying to keep
his weight steady until his transplant as he said he lost all motivation
to go and really work out. In the end his weight plummeted, but he got
the transplant about 3 weeks ago now and will no doubt already be sitting
in his house with the free weights!

He was very knowledgable about weight lifting and dialysis, if i see him
again i will ask him if he knows of any place for more information.

Hey there.

When I first got this now failing kidney transplant I spent a lot of
time at then gym and gained approximately 25 kgs. (Most of it muscle.)
A big difference I know - most friends did not recognise me and always
thought I was someone else.

To say the least, my weight has plummeted by the same amount due to
different habits and a lack of motivation to exercise due to the kidney
failing.

I am nonetheless still relatively fit as I try to walk long distances
as often as possible.

If you find out any material though with regards to effective
bodybuilding and dialysis, I'll be very interested. If I hear of
anything, I'll be sure to tell you too.

One thing. I talked to my dietician about bodybuilding and she said it
was imperative that I ate as much protein foods as I could (without
going over my limit) as it would ensure as great a possibility of
taking advantage of the exercise as possible.

So make sure you eat the quota of meat that you should be if you want
to gain those muscle kilos...

Good luck.

Daniel.
