How much water intake for renal diet (Not on dialysis)

| Water intake should be controlled. Not too much, not too little. But how
much is the right amount of water that a pt on renal diet (not on dialysis)
should have?
I have found that the right amount of water intake is equal to the volume of
urine plus 600 ml per day.
Any other recommentation?
Thank you
Martha

You lose about half a liter of fluid every day just by exhaling.
Although the standard fluid intake for dialysis patients is one liter
of fluid per day some doctors advocate a larger amount for large
individuals. Most folks abuse their fluid intake while on dialysis
and that leads to all sorts of complications varying in severity from
cramping to enlarged hearts.

I am on a renal diet/non-dialysis diet, and I have no fluid
restrictions; in fact, I am encouraged to drink plenty of water but that
could be due to my hypercalciuria and hyperuricosuria.

| A pre-dialysis person really shouldn't need a fluid restriction. Drink when
you're thirsty. There will be plenty of time for fluid restrictions once
you're on dialysis, but even then, it depends on how much kidney function
you still have. It's not like it disappears overnight. It's a gradual thing
for most people.
