| I think this may be slightly off topic, considering this is a group
for support, etc., but it is the first group that I found concerning
kidneys, etc adn I had a question. I know some things are harder on
your kidneys, carbonated drinks, etc, but does anyone know if nuts are
bad on your kidneys. I have been having more pains on my sides, that
I think are my kidnyes anyway, and I wonder why. I take a medication
for high blood pressure that is also a diuretic, Maxide, and I've been
without it for a couple of days and I just took one today and my sides
have started hurting and I've also been eating a lot of pistachios
this weekend and wondered if there were any connection. Also, what
are some possible causes of the hurting in my sides that I think are
my kidneys? I appreciate any help and hope everyone has a Happy
4th!!!!

Diuretics can cause that type of pain if taken in high doses. Perhaps
your body became less tolerant to taking your medication when you went
off it for a few days. Have you been urinating a lot since you went
back on the medication? I would suspect starting the drug again after
a time off it as the cause of your discomfort rather than the
pistachios.

It always makes me urinate more after missing it for a day or two.
But I'm still left with the question, why the discomfort? Just my
body working to get more fluid out then?

| I'm just wondering why you are skipping days with the diuretic? Most often
diuretics are ordered on a daily basis. If you are taking this due to
congestive heart failure, kidney dysfunction or high blood pressure and you
are to be take this daily the yo yo'ing you are doing with it is hard on
your body especially if it's for congestive heart failure.

No, it's for high blood pressure. I went out of town and didn't plan very
well, and ran out of my medicine, that's why I skipped a couple of days.

High blood pressure can and does lead to kidney failure. I knew quite
a few hemodialysis patients whose kidneys had failed due to high blood
pressure. You're probably ok but you should always make sure to have
adequate supplies of your medication on hand.

| don't know if your kidneys are sick, but maybe your bile, of your gall
bladder hurts. Is the pain on the right side of your stomage, high in your
stomage, under your ribs? Are you also in pain, wenn you are drinking
coffee, of when you eat to fat. Nuts are full of fatt too. Mind these
thinks. Maybe it is not your kidney.
greetings,
lenie
