Have the following simple symptom been explained & recorded ?

I believe genetic factors are important.
I'm male 65 yr. My father died at 85, and had bad congnition
after 75. He had a 'condition' which I haven't seen recorded:
he would have mild tremors and poor comprehension while
'working' [interfering in his own company], which would dissapear
if he went away for 2 weeks. Because his condition was so variable,
I suspected that he had minor strokes, from which he recovered.

Apparently I too had a stroke 2 years back, since I woke up with
double vision, which lasted for 3 months. Here in S.Africa the medical
services have gone to shit - also - so I self medicated by dieting to bring
my cholesterol down from 7.?+ to 5.?

So much for background, now the symptom:
due to the socio-economic degeneration here I'm busy long hours,
mostly legal stuff [since the judicial system has also gone to shit].
I often have 4-5 hrs sleeping with 7-8 hrs working cycles.
When I 'discover' some hot information, possible by internet search,
which relates to some of the problems which I'm struggleing with,
I get a "buzz" [feeling of elation] and I start reading/analysing the
text, but am only able to absorb it for few minutes, before my
concentration decreases. It's almost as if some chemical is suddenly
used up. With a break away or a rest I'm able to "charge up" and
continue further analysis of the text. The more 'important' the text
the more rapid the depletion of 'concentratation power'. Ie. 'more
emotion causes higher critical chemical consumption rate'.

My father never initiated a telephone call, after age 75.
I too need to prepare & write down my telephone calls.
Increasingly, I can't think on my feet - but claim to be able to do
deeper analysis than most. But must use writing to structure my
logic. So far I've evolved coping mechanisms, but want to know
what to anticipate for the future.

A related observation: a diabetic 70 yo. friend can be either
dull or relatively alert when I phone him. I guess it depends on his
blood-sugar-level. But my apparent rapid [within 1 minute] 'depletion
of chemicals' by 'mental stimulation', which can be replenished by
removing the 'mental stimulation', is new to me.

Is the above normal/acknowledged in neuro-science ?
Can any body provide any on-line references ?

Thanks for any info,
