| Hi all ~
Well, after waiting a month to see what the results of the blood tests
were, and the appointment with a second neurologist, there is some news
~ rather mixed as far as I am concerned.
I was told that I do not have Multifocal Motor Neuropathy ~ instead he
believes that I have some kind of "muscle wasting disease." Of course,
this is not his specialty, so he ordered more blood tests, and for me
to see yet a third neurologist after the results of the blood tests are
back. That appointment will be in two weeks.
While I was there, I told him that this all 'hit the fan' shortly after
I was started on Plaquanil, which I am taking for Lupus and Sjogren's
Syndrome. I asked if all this might be related.
He said that was an excellent question, continued with the examination,
and when leaving said that he was going to call my rheumatologist.
About two hours after I got home, I got a phone call from my
rheumatologist, who informed me that she had just had "a lovely talk"
with the neurologist, and that he believed that my inability to walk
might be related to taking Plaquanil. She told me to stop taking it ...
and to keep my appointment with her on 8/1/06, at which time we will
see what is going on ~ if there has been any change, and what, if
anything needs to happen, since the Plaquanil had been quite effective
in dealing with both pain and fatigue.
So, I will see the third neurologist on 8/9/06 ~ wish me luck!

| Hi Susan:
I do wish you good luck on your August 9th appointment. It's good to
know how long a drug has been on the market and its side effects. I'm
not suggesting this is your problem; however, few doctors know how to
treat viral diseases. In most cases, viruses are the culprit but won't
show up in a blood test.
