| Hi,
Mental Health Media are a UK-based organisation fighting discrimination
and promoting positive representation of mental health issues in the
media. We have just launched our Anti-Discrimination toolkit -
www.openuptoolkit.net - and are now developing a new site focused on art
and mental health issues. We would like to invite you to visit both
sites, and to join the discussion forums on the Open-Up site -
http://www.openuptoolkit.net/forum/ . In particular we are also seeking
interested persons to volunteer as moderators for both websites.
best regards,
MHM

THINK YOU KNOW ABOUT ART?
It’s time to listen to people who aren’t normally heard
MadforArts is a brand new web and tv project by the Community Channel,
designed to encourage people with mental health issues to give their
opinion about the arts.
People will be encouraged to give their thoughts on art on a specially
created website. Twelve website contributors will be helped to make
films, which will be shown on UK broadcaster Five and the Community
Channel. England-wide outreach events will be designed to help people
with mental health issues get heard - working with mental health
organisations, arts centres and community filmmakers.
MadforArts will be launched regionally in the North East, North West and
Cornwall and Devon, and will then be rolled out throughout England.
The new website will be at the core of the project. It will be a place
for comment and discussion from service users about the arts in general,
and also about art in their area. People will be encouraged to
contribute opinions as well as audio, stills and video.
Crucial to the success of the website will be its volunteer moderators.
Service users will be given training and guidance on how to moderate,
including all the rules about defamation and copyright.
An expert user panel will guide the project at every stage to ensure
accessibility. It will be made up of mental health service users and
survivors who have experience of art through practice, study or research.
If you or anyone else you know might be interested in being on the panel
or in becoming a volunteer website moderator please contact Mel Herdon:

The project is funded by Culture Online, part of the Department for
Culture Media and Sport. Mental Health Media are involved as a
subcontractor to The Community Channel.
