I stopped posting here and visiting all these internet forums becuase I
got tired of trying to read through all the garbage to find useful
information. All the repetitive, factless doom and gloom was getting
old.
Six years of natural vision therapy (NVI) improved my myopia, mostly
because it helped my strabismus and helped my eyes learn to work more
efficiently in tandem. At the end of the day I was still myopic and the
fact there was nothig else that could be done for it. It's like wanting
to be taller. You can stand straight and stretch but a 5'6" adult will
never be 6' just by correcting their posture.
I know oodles of people that have gotten Lasik and not one, be it
family, friends, or patients that come through my practice, and not one
has had any complications and all have been pleased with the results.
These results were more valid to me then the negative vitreole spewed
forth by many on the internet.
One day back in June I went to put my glasses on to see something and
somehow stuck myself in the eye with them. When the litany of curses
subsided, I felt enough was enough. Within 2 weeks I had Lasik
performed by a surgeon that came highly recommended by several of my
friends and colleagues who had the procedure done himself 8 years ago.
I had no complications, not even dry eyes. I can see clearly and my
up-close vision is still sharp If I end up needing reading glasses then
that isthe preferable trade off to not being able to see my infant son
make faces from across the room.
I was the biggest proponent for NVI and passionate that I would cure my
defective eyesight through hard work. Soemtimes you just have to
understand that certain things cannot be changed regardless of the
effort put forth and then a decision has to be made if the options to
correct the defect are worth the risks and potential long and short
term complcations.
