"What we all have to achieve, day by day, patient by patient, a
hundred patient per hundred, a thousand per thousand, there should be
no exception, is to make the patient as good as he was with contact
lenses or glasses

But LASIK can be unstable, unpredictable... and just doesn't work as
well as contact lenses or glasses! People end up with permanent poor
vision that they would NEVER tolerate from a pair of glasses!

I still fail to see any good reason for contact wearers to get lasik.
Dont be lazy, it takes just a moment to insert in your contacts! If you
hate contacts that much, stick with glasses or give orthoK a try!

Well there is a good reason right there - laziness. Do you think power
steering, elevators and automatic can-openers were invented by exercise
freaks?

I am lazy and still would be glad to deal with orthoK every other
night. There are some people extremely lazy when it comes to their eyes
and want nothing to do with glasses nor contacts. They want a quick
lasik fix, hope it works then forget about their eyes.

That's the whole point of Lasik. So we agree that it is at least one
good reason.

Yes, but does it justify the risks of lasik and possible complications?
I am lazy but I would never do a thing like that to my eyes for the
sake of saving a minute of my time! Most people who get lasik have many
reasons other than the minor inconvinence of contacts.

A minute ago you were saying there were no reasons to get Lasik. People
have different reasons but most people need to have a pretty damn good
reason to part with severals thousand pounds/dollars to have it done.
However, millions do and consider the small chance of a complication to
be fully justified because of the huge benefits that they can and do get
after surgery.

I would love to know who is feeding you this crap Ace. OrthoK
every OTHER night? first of all.. it is EVERY night.. not every
other night.. Second.. the effect is only useful for at best 6 hours
after you take the lenses out, then you have to put in the retainers.
Third.. with YOUR prescription, orthoK won't even work for 6 seconds..
let alone 6 hours.

How many doctors have to tell you that you can't have orthoK before
you listen? I will have to try and find some quack who will do
orthoK on you just to shut you up. You might try asking Minarik, but
I don't think he will do you either.

That is just my opinion. Some people feel their reason to get lasik is
justified even if we all disagree and let him know. The money isnt the
main concern, the risks are. You cant place a price on your eyes. Even
if lasik was offered free, many people wouldnt touch it after being
informed of all the risks, complications and tradeoffs. I have not
heard the price as a common excuse. Most who dont get it arent good
candidates or know enough about it not to risk it.

As usual, you are wrong.

Ms Tahhan said after one week of wearing ortho-k lenses to correct her
own myopia, she no longer needed to wear glasses.

"It's not a permanent change - if I stopped wearing the lenses at night
my sight would return to its previous point," she said.

"But some people have such good results with ortho-k they only need to
wear them once or twice a week."

You must know some rich people then. The majority of people I talk to
about my Lasik would love to get it themselves if they had the money.
Perhaps once they investigated it they might decide it was not for them
on risk grounds or find that they are not suitable but it is always the
price that is the initial dissuader.

However, some people say they don't fancy the idea of someone "playing
with their eyes" but that is often from a position of ignorance and once
I explain what is involved in the procedure then they often change their
opinion and then become restricted by cost. My advice normally follows
the official line on Lasik but with a more pessimistic slant (I am
undercorrected after all) which, I think you'll find, is consistent with
my comments on-line so it is not as if I'm trying to persuade people
into having it done.

Lasik is not that expensive here and most people can save for lasik in
a couple months or take a 12 to 24 month loan and pay back a little
each month. They just have better things to do with the money, like
saving it for their kids college, retirement or a fun vacation. The
informed ones also know that lasik incurs risks. I will agree that alot
more people would get lasik if it was free, but far from everyone
would. Money+risk are two factors. Make it free and risk is the only
factor.

You have some balls to say I'm wrong, Ace. That is like Stevie
Wonder giving Tiger Woods advice on golfing.

Problem is Ace.. virtually all of your opinions are asinine.

How many people does it take that call you as XXX, retard, ignoramous,
retard, fool, XXXXXXX, jerk, idiiot, malcontent, bozo, etc. before it
sinks in?

Only that twisted XXXXX Burch seems to share your warped thinking.

Of course Burch agrees with the retard, they both fell off the
same turnip truck.
