Retinal complications are a risk factor for high myopia. Many patients
seeking Lasik are highly myopic. Brief increased intraocular pressure
during Lasik, IntraLasik, and Epi-Lasik can be problematic for
patients with a compromised retina. Anyone with a high refractive
error (about over 10.00 diopters) or a history of retinal problems
should have a vitreoretinal examination before these refractive
surgery techniques, or consider the surface ablation techniques PRK or
LASEK.
