Ace,

Prior to lasik, I couldn't even spot a star in the sky without
glasses. Now I can easily point out Mizar and Alcor. Three years
after lasik, I am at 20/15 L and 20/10 R, with perfect night vision.
Prior to lasik, the best I could be corrected L&R was 20/20.

my comments: not supprising for a high myope to see little. Without
glasses I think I can only see the brightest stars. The fact you could
see "better" after lasik is simply because your glasses minified
everything. Still seeing 20/20 with glasses and its minification
indicates you should end up 20/15 with contacts or successful lasik.
Its the norm for high myopes to gain a line of vision when you take
away the minification of glasses. I dont believe the 20/10, its
probably 20/13 and you guessed a couple on the 20/10 line. My sisters
friend was supposly 20/10 but later found out shes closer to 20/15 and
can see most of the 20/13 line and guess a couple on the 20/10. True
20/10 vision is extremely rare, less than 2% ever see this well.

My surgeon did comment that high myopias actually have a good chance to
achieve vision well beyond 20//20 with lasik . My guess, the reshaping
(flattening) of the cornea combine elongated axis produces a slightly
larger image, perfectly focused on the retina (similar concept as a
telescope ).

my comments: Your guess doesnt make sense but if it was true, youd have
a poor field of vision in exchange for magnification. Its alot like
hyperopes and their plus glasses which act like a weak pair of
binoculars. Everything is magnified but their field of vision is
reduced.

I see everything with such detail and accuracy that its like a whole
new world (even at night ). I couldn't even imagine going back to a
world seen through glasses or contacts.

my comments: I am glad to hear you had a lucky successful outcome. Its
a rare exception to see perfect at night because lasik induces more
aberrations and just about everyone I know has reduced night vision.

I must say "Lasik is truly a modern miracle of science!"

my comments: Those who werent as lucky as you would disagree.
