One of the high-volume LASIK mills' tricks is to advertise LASIK at
one price just to lure patients in, then tell the patients that they
don't qualify for the low rate that lured them in, and charge them the
full price. My LASIK center tried this one on me.

I went in for my preop eval not knowing anything really about eyeballs.
So the OD who did the preop eval says to me that I have astigmatism, so
the price will be twice what I had agreed to pay. Red flags went up
immediately because I knew I didn't have astigmatism. So I said "I was
never told that I had astigmatism, and my soft contacts don't have
astigmatism correction. I don't have the extra money, so I guess I'll
just have to cancel". I was ready to bolt for the door. But the OD
starts to stammer and says that my astigmatism is not that bad, so they
will go ahead and do it for the original price that I had agreed to. I
cannot tell you how many times I have kicked myself for not following
my instincts and just said, "no thanks".

So most of you know the rest of the story, but the part you probably
don't know is the part about the astigmatism...

After they ruined my eyes I asked for my records. On my preop eval
sheet it was noted that my refraction showed zero astigmastism in one
eye and .25 in the other. Get this -- .25

The laser that I was treated with could not be programmed to treat
astigmatism under .50

But here's the thing --

LASIK induced one diopter of (regular) astigmatism in the eye that had
zero before.

THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME TO CORRECT ASTIGMATISM THAT I DID NOT HAVE AND
INSTEAD, INDUCED A FULL DIOPTER OF BLURRY ASTIGMATISM.

The LASIK industry calls this "residual astigmatism".

Fast forward to today. After regression and corneal remodeling, etc.,
etc., I am myopic with astigmatism in both eyes and fully dependent on
glasses or contacts. Unfortunately, contacts and glasses cannot fix the
destroyed night vision due to my 8mm pupils. I am dependent on others
to give me rides at night. It affects my job and my life in so many
ways.

I also suffer from burning painful dry eyes. That's another story.

Seems that lasik raises one intelligence. Before lasik she fell for the
bait and switch trick and admits she knew nothing about the eye.
After lasik she can now tell others what to do because she is so smart.

Conclusion: lasik increases ones IQ.

thanks for sharing the sad story. Pretty ironic comming from a lasik
procontent like yourself. She was part to blame for going to a discount
lasik mill run by a bunch of chimps using old obsolete lasers. Your
risks shoot way up if you try to cut corners and save $ on your eyes.

Ace--post this reply over on the original Lasikflap thread. "Broken
Eyes" might not know this and it's important you pass this vital info
along to her.

Oooh, yeah, baby, and Paula Cofer/Broken Eyes is thrilled to
little-bitty-bits to know her sad story is being copied to this NG for
your ignorant comments and unnecessary judgments. BTW, SErebel needs to
learn how to use spell check. G-E-N-I-U-S.

It appears that SERebel has learned something from Ace--how to
cross-post without permission.

If Cofer didn't want this posted anywhere, she should just keep her
mouth closed.

RT,
I don't need anyone's permission to cross post anything.

The best the nut fringe could call me on is a misspelling?
