Does anybody have a recommendation for a good Lasik guy in NYC? Anybody
I should steer clear of? I am currently looking at the following:

Eric Mandel
Joseph Dello Russo

Also, while I obviously care more about quality than price, it makes no
sense to me that just because somebody charges more, they are a better
surgeon. With that in mind, are there any "discount" Lasik guys in NYC
anyone would suggest?

Thanks

If you visit http://www.usaeyes.org/surgeons/sta...ik_new_york.htm
you will see several NYC surgeons who have been evaluated and are
currently certified by our organization. To learn what our
certification requires, visit
http://www.usaeyes.org/faq/subjects/certified.htm

If you are considering a surgeon that is not certified by our
organization, you may want to use our 50 Tough Questions For Your
Doctor at http://www.usaeyes.org/faq/tough_questions.htm for
evaluation.

In another thread you asked if there is any central database regarding
refractive surgeon outcomes. There is not. At least, there is not one
that you can access.

The National Practitioner's Data Bank (NPDB) is a federally mandated
central source for information regarding sanctions and successful
malpractice claims against all US surgeons, however the NPDB is not
available to the general public. Our certification organization does
have access to the NPDB and we use it as part of our evaluation
process. In fact one of the doctors you mentioned was decertified by
our organization due, in part, to multiple successful malpractice
claims that were revealed in the NPDB.

You will find privately operated websites that will have some
information about surgeons, but they are neither complete nor are they
comprehensive. Most often they "target" one doctor who the owner of
the website dislikes, or they provide only partial information, such
as initial malpractice claim court filings, but not the final findings
of the case.

There are also other certifications that can help indicate a doctor
who is willing to stand up to outside scrutiny. Visit
http://www.usaeyes.org/faq/subjects...tifications.htm for
details.
