| Hi all,
I'm not sure if I'm in the right place but I didn't find any other
groups. I have had this problem with my eyes my whole life. they get
red and feel tired and a little burning. I have seen a lot of doctors
but they just say I have to give my eyes more rest and blink more
often. well I do that; it doesn't help much, Also even on the days that
I don't work and get 8-9 hours of sleep they are still red. I just read
that you can rinse your eyes with cold milk to sooth them. is that
true? does any body know anything else that migh help ---or the cause
of red tired eyes?
I appreciate your help.

I have cross-posted your question to the sci.med.vision newsgroup. I
highly recommend that you visit that forum for more information.

Cold milk is not a good choice. Some ignorant person figured that if
milk is white, and you want your eyes to looks white, why not dump milk
in them? No, they are red because of irritation. You can help by
removing the sources of the irritation, but that's usually too severe an
Rx. The simple and effective thing is to do warm moist compresses
against the closed eye 3 x per day for at least 5 minutes (requires
reheating the compress a couple of times), followed by gentle lid
massage, followed by a hot shower with baby shampoo scrubs of the lids
and lashes. BTW some redness is due to anatomical structure and cannot
be helped. Stay away from decongent eyedrops, and as a last resort,
consider steroid drops.

| Thanks William, I'll try the compress, massage and baby shampoo
The cold milk didn't sound right but I thought I'd ask about it anyway.
:-)
Thank you,
Atreena

Dr. Stacy is describing treatment for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction or
blepharitis, which can indeed cause your symptoms. These treatments,
howevere, do not cure the underlying problem.
Iit is critical that you see an opthalmologist who specializes in these
conditions. Seeking dIagnoses and getting treatment modalities over the
Web is not the way to go. These are your eyes.
Dry/red/sore eyes can be indicative or symptoms of a number of things,
including allergies, which is your most likely culprit from a
statistical standpoint. Or you may have ocular rosacea which would also
possibly include red dry skin on your cheeks, nose, etc. The former
condition can be addressed with lifestyle modifications and drugs; the
latter with antibiotic therapies. So you can see that an appropriate
diagnosis is essential.
Here is a link on rosacea. See if this fits your symptoms, and go from
there. http://www.rosacea-ltd.com/ocular.php3

This is a must read on eye health and maintainance. You may or may not be
affected , but you might be shocked!
Please excuse the interruption , but I thought you may be interested to know
what may be causing all kinds of health problems for yourself or for your
loved ones. I can't seem to get it through to my wife's brain about this
vital health issue, Now she is always saying she is having trouble with her
vision. Gee, I wonder why? I am so pissed off right now, I really want to
slap some sense into her. She has been feeding this poison to my four
children for years after I asked her not too, so you can see why I said what
I said previously, but I would never hit my wife. Why are people ignore what
science brings to are attention about health issues. I am really upset, but
I hope this helps you....since I can't get through to my wife of 16
years.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
