ultrastructural correlation.

OBJECTIVE: To perform confocal microscopy on postmortem human LASIK corneas
and correlate these findings to histologic and ultrastructure evaluations.
DESIGN: Prospective, consecutive, observational case series. PARTICIPANTS:
Ninety postmortem LASIK corneas (47 patients) were evaluated for
histopathology, of which 22 consecutive corneas (12 patients) were also
evaluated by confocal microscopy. Six normal corneas (3 patients) served as
controls.

Thirteen of the 22 LASIK corneas had enough clarity (i.e., no stromal
swelling) to allow accurate confocal examinations (i.e., undisturbed
architecture), although 5 of the 13 required epithelial scraping. In these
corneas (n = 13), we found interface particles in 100%, microfolds in
Bowman's layer in 100%, a mean flap thickness of 146.2±21.5 ?m (range,
125-194), a mean interface thickness of 6.3±2.5 ?m (range, 3-10), and a mean
residual stromal bed thickness of 399.8±35.9 ?m (320-464). The interface
particles averaged in size from 1 to 6 ?m in diameter (range, 0.5-25), ! the
numbers of particles in the interface averaged 142±91 particles per square
millimeter (range, 44-353), and the reflectivity of the particles ranged
from high to low.

| Gee, Glenn. I'm not Hanson. I happen to be a woman, but that's not the
important point here. The finding
that 100% of post-LASIK corneas have interface debris and microfolds means
that ALL LASIK corneas
were found to have interface debris and microfolds.
Read the article and weep, you're promoting procedures that do permanent
harm to people... for cash. THAT's why you've been
called a 'LASIK pimp' and 'Pimp in a Pimpmobile' for years. In case you were
wondering....
