that's a great uplifting story. It's wonderful that having LASIK will
improve his quality of life.

I believe the fire/heat damaged his corneas, but I'm not getting the
part about IV fluids affecting intraocular pressure.

I'm surprised that you would post this.
I would not have recommended LASIK for that man. He had severe
dryness problems and pressure changes in his eyes. The surgeon was
wrong in indicating that Intralase is the solution for that. Intralase
is fine, however, the benefits of Intralase have nothing to do with
the wildfire induced injuries to that man's eyes. It's more like
that doctor was being an opportunist and was looking for some free
publicity and advertising.

The pressure changes in his eyes was only for the duration of the
saline drip.
After what he's gone thru, why not do it? If this works out for him,
who cares if the surgeon is an opportunist ? It will turn into
win/win.
I know that I would have done the same thing.

Well, considering that man is just about the worst possible candidate
for LASIK... and he STILL had a positive outcome to improve the
quality of his life, that tells you something about how safe and
beneficial LASIK is.

Yes... but my main point is that this man was just about the worst
candidate for the procedure.. and it STILL was a benefit for him.

Nice assessment, differential dx and prognosis, Ragweed. I just don't
know how you do it with such little information. You can start
practicing opthalmology now. On yourself.

Looks like Frankie can use another rabies shot.
