Good Grief! How old are the people posting on this NG? I thought we

are a doctor of any kind.
In the wake of this country's worst natural disaster in living memory,
when thousands from "loosianna" are dead, and many more thousands have
lost everything, without even "homes" to "go home" to (yes, even
trailers would be welcome), your comment displays a shocking lack of
simple human decency. What a miserably mean-spirited, unkind waste of
space you are.

So giving money gives you the right to be insensitive and license to use
the tragedies of others as insults? Is that what's called putting your
mouth where your money is?
I sincerely hope that you don't have any family or friends who were
killed or affected by Hurricane Katrina or the 2002 bombings in Bali.
I'm sure your donations have been much appreciated by my friends and
family members who have suffered and who are still suffering in both
Bali and the southern U.S. Money helps in the short term with immediate
relief--but for instance in places like Bali that depend on tourism, the
lasting effects are devastating. Have you travelled there recently to
support the Balinese tourist economy? Be careful tho and leave your
drug habit at home--Schapelle Corby has made it harder for you Aussies
to party there.
I hope the SE people read this. I was originally kicked off the SE
website for questioning the appropriateness of Grant Mason's response to
a poster who needed help. Grant told this person with post-LASIK
complications that what he needed was a lobotomy. I guess he hasn't
changed. Insults are the only kind of advice he knows how to give.
He's obviously extremely insecure to lash out against others in pain.
Beware of this man. I sincerely doubt he is qualified at all in the
fields optometry or ophthalmology.

Hi RT,
I kind of get where Grant is coming from because as a fellow
Australian, I know that we tend to just cut to the chase and avoid
niceties (Grant may disagree with this assumption). We tend to be very
blunt if people piss us off. Australians generally don't "beat around
the bush" (so to speak) and this often comes across as rudeness when in
fact, it's just our way of getting straight to the point. We also
cannot stand whingers, so if someone posts the same stuff over and over
again, we have very little time for them. Grant is definitely qualified
as he has a practice near where I live.
Grant, feel free to contradict what I have just posted if you disagree!
I know I am generalising.

| Quite correct Linda. In fact, the original response was for the trailer
trash to go home. Of course, americans would take this the wrong way,
they show little subtlty in humour. For what it is worth, I do not know
where Loosiana is, nor do I really care, I was a science major, not
geography. It sounded like a good place for Debbie to go. Since parts
of it have been washed away, all the more reason to back there.

Hi Grant,
We do get a rather funny view of the U.S here, don't you think? My
younger brother lives and works in the U.S (he is an investment
banker). He tells me that many of the stereotypes are completely
correct and others are not. I always picture the Deep South as being
full of rednecks in Utility vehicles. Then again, our image
(stereotype) in the U.S is not terrific either. Our men are expected to
be like Crocodile Dundee and our streets overun with kangaroos!

Hi Linda
I would hardly put you in the same category as Grant. Cutting to the
chase is one thing, insensitivity to a really horrific situation is
another. And the fact that he admits to not even knowing or caring
where Louisiana is just makes my point even more.
Just because he has a practice near you and is a fellow Australian
doesn't make him a decent or competent person. Of course it's up to you
if you want to say nice things about him, but he's had every chance on
this board to show his true nature and from what he's shown here and on
the SE board he is mean spirited and has a "sense of humor" that only he
finds funny.
I still suspect that someone is hijacking his name because, like you, I
cannot believe that a "respected" optometrist could have such a foul
mouth and insensitive character.

| At first, I thought you were incorrect about this.. but something
fishy is going on about who is running that site. It seems as if the
anonymous puppeteers are using those doctors listed on their site for
their own purposes. Those doctors filled out a postcard at one of
various conventions giving SE permission to post them on that site.
It doesn't really matter though. They are irrelevant.

| In fact, the reason RT was asked to come back was that Dr Mason pleaded
on his behalf and threatened to walk out. I did not believe he should
have been kicked out for an opinion, however wrong it was.
For what it was worth, my response on that occasion was to a poster who
had a poor result and no assistance from his UK doctor and 3 days later
was asking about his girlfriend booked in to have the same procedure at
the same surgery that day. I am sorry, but I think even Glenn would not
be suggesting to take your girlfriend to that centre so soon after your
own poor result.

He's desperate. It's very sad and extremely frustrating when someone
cannot be held accountable for your troubles. I would not like to be in
his shoes. It must be very hard to move on in life when your vision is
disturbed because you are aware of it every waking moment. I am in no
way endorsing his methods and responses, only that I understand that he
and his multiple personalities have some serious problems.

Cofer is that nut, Brokeneyes. Totally screwed up in the head.
Artistwoman is Barbara Berney. She is much like Rebecca where she will
allow the loon fringe to post the lies and distortions but she also
pulls back when posting. She appears to keep her feet on the ground.

| It was Berney who said to a mutual acquaintance that the reason she

Considering that the mutual acquaintance is a refractive surgeon and
(I believe) Jewish, that seemed to be a rather inflammatory,
insensitive, and unjustified statement. It is, alas, what I have come

I do not run SE, and I still have the honor of being "banned" from
there.
The home base of the "new" SE is Rockford, IL because Barbara Berney
has the whole bit and caboodle on her aging Mac.

| For those of you who lost track of the old backstory, Artistwoman
(Barb) was my patient for years, a high myope with a need for a perfect
refraction to get a comfortable pair of glasses. On a "whim" she went
to Eyeglass World, got sold on the joys of LVI and LASIK, and then she
had the most horrific looking LASIK result I have ever seen. As you
have learned from Ragnar's many posts, LVI is the worst of the
chopshops, and I sincerely believe that 50% of all of the core SE
patients with serious problems were injured by LVI.

South Florida Business Journal - 1:37 PM EDT Tuesday 13 September
"Eyeglass, Lasik shops settle with state
The state said it has reached a $1 million agreement with two eye care
companies it said failed to comply with an earlier consumer protection
settlement.
The state said the Eyeglass World retail chain supposedly allowed
customers to have their eyes examined by an independent, licensed
optometrist and then purchase the company's corrective lenses. The
attorney general's office said its investigation revealed non-licensed
Eyeglass World personnel were calling themselves opticians and
dispensing eyeglasses. Eyeglass World is based in Lake Worth, as is
subsidiary Lasik Vision Institute.
The state also said non-medical personnel at Lasik Vision Institute
were performing certain medical procedures that are supposed to be
done only by licensed medical personnel. "

Fascinating that the settlement included Eye World donating several
hundred thousand dollars worth of glasses...Community service for the
corporate world...
Eye World and LVI are bad news. But just as Eye World doesn't condemn
all opticians, neither should LVI condemn the whole LASIK industry.
There are always bad seeds.

| Thanks for clearing that one up.
Barbara Berney is certainly one of the hard-core malcontent loonies.
She is not unlike a terrorist. So is Osama Brent Hanson.

| I agree with you completely here. LVI is responsible for the lion's
share of all lasik problems. Barbi Birney must be some airhead to
have gone to Eyeglasses World/LVI They have been convicted numerous
times for selling USED and expired contact lenses amongst other
things.
I bet you wish you never had that looney as a patient.
I think the SE doctors are extremely foolish to troll for patients on
SE. The looneys who participate in that site are not the kind of
people you want to have as patients.

| That's even WORSE. Portable computers are limited in many ways which
makes them a poor choice to use for anything. The only advantage of
them is portability.
