| Your knowlege of cooking is as poor as your knowlege of eyes.
Brioche is a type of bread. A very rich type of bread with lots of
eggs. It's so rich it's almost like a cake.
Interestingly, the very famous quote of Marie Antoinette - who was
beheaded - is not accurate. She is quoted as saying "Let them eat
cake" when told that the peasants had no bread to eat. What she
actually said would be properly translated as "let them eat brioche".
In fact, there is a reason for saying that. At the time, bakers made
very little cheap bread and would sometimes run out. the cheap bread
was not profitable for the bakers. The bakers would make plenty of
expensive bread such as brioche and profit off of that. HOWEVER,
there was a french law REQUIRING bakers to sell their expensive breads
at he same price as the cheap breads if they ran out of cheap breads.
This law's intent was to encourage the bakers to make sufficient
quantities of cheap bread even though it was not profitable for them.
So, what the statement "Let them each brioche" means is that the law
to sell the rich breads at the price of the cheap breads should be
enforced so that the peasants would not be neglected.
Furthermore, the statement "let them eat brioche" was not unique to
Marie Antoinette. She is just the one to whom the quote is attributed
since she got her head lopped off.
Poaching is a cooking method involving the gentle heating of a food in
a simmering liquid (usually water or wine).
Eyes are eaten. They are an ancient version of "jello". Asian
cultures consider fish eyes to be a treat.
I don't think the eyes of larger animals are consumed because the
external eye muscles are the strongest in the body - and must be tough
as leather.
