| My husband that is 43 just found out today he has it in his right eye.
There is know cure for it.
Does any know of someone who has it and what they are doing about? His
left eye does not show it which is good. He does have very bad near
sighting in both eyes and the Dr said that i'ts common in people who
have severe near sightness. Any help or resoures would help us right
now. This is fairly a new diease that not much is know about it. But
causes the center of the eye to blue to grey in the retina.
Help a concerned and worried wife.
Need help in this.

| Macular degeneration is a progressive eye condition affecting millions
around the world. The disease attacks the macula of the eye, where our
sharpest central vision occurs. Although it rarely results in complete
blindness, it robs the individual of all but the outermost, peripheral
vision, leaving only dim images or black holes at the center of
vision.
There are three major organizations that can provide information,
support, and referral. They are (in order by my preference):

I'm sure your general eye physician has referred your husband to a
retinal specialist for follow-up care. If not, this is something you
need to do; visit a retinal specialist.
The retina specialist will probably be able to put you in touch with
locals who have MD. There may even be a local chapter of people with
MD.
I don't like giving false hopes, but there is a new class of
medication for MD that seems to be valuable at reducing MD's
progression. They are not for everybody, nor are they for every type
of MD, but you will want to discuss this with your retina specialist.
The folks over at ScienceBasedHealth have supplements designed to help
patients with MD, and a few good articles too.

If you really want to get deep into the details and medical minutia,
visit the National Library of Medicine where just about every medical
journal is available online.

| You mean Macular Degeneration and it's very common - roughly 5% of
older caucasions get it.

| There are a few things you can look at.
First diet. You want high antioxidant levels, so take supplements of
vitamins A, C and E, There are formulas at the pharmacy especially for
this. Also green vegetables, particularly cabbage, broccoli, spinach
and parsley are highly beneficial. Take at least 1-2 cups worth per
week, more is better.
Syntonics, or light therapy can have some help in holding the
deterioration, as well as microcurrent devices, see SCYfix.org for some
details.
I hope this helps.
