This is interesting. This study appears to conclude that some people
have extreme dry eyes and pain after LASIK because their nerves have
regenerated, but have become oversensitive or confused--altered and
excited.

Personally, I wonder if this is due to the use of steroid drops after
the procedure. I believe that if you let the eye heal on its own
natural time, rather than trying to reduce edema, that the nerves have a
better chance to recuperate back to normal.
