Author Expiring time of these messages

This is kind of a bit off topic, but why are the expiring time of messages
in this news group so short? The messages are disappearing before one can
react to them. Would it be possible to change this? It is a feature in a
news group, right (not a user setting for example)?

It depends on your newsserver provider. So you can do nothing to change
that, some free providers offer one week or two others (for a fee or the
server of your provider) offer up to a year or more for text groups like
this one or even more. But online (Google Groups) there are all the messages
you want.

This is probably an issue with your newsgroup reader or your ISP's
newsgroup server. All these messages are around forever, as they are
archived on servers throughout the world.

Check the settings on your newsgroup reader, and then check with your
ISP.

The retention time of the messages depends upon your Newsgroup
provider. If you use your own ISP as your newsgroup service, you
might only have 24 hours of retention. If you use a service such as
Easynews, you get something like 30 to 45 days of retention.

I wish there was about a 2 minute retention time on the posts of the
loonies.

Two minutes may not be the retention time, but for many it is the
pay-attention time.
