So, just how big is Ragnar's 10 Million LASIKs Number?

| One of the numbers that Ragamuffin has been boasting about is that the
number of LASIK surgeries performed should be at about 10 million so
far, worldwide. Before we start the "oohs" and "aahs" about that
number, lets look at the contact lens market, as estimated by the
magazine Ophthalmology Times. Their 2004 estimate puts the worldwide
contact market at 100 million, and that represents 4% of the spectacle
lens wearers market. So, if the LASIK market is "gobbling up" all that
market share, they still have to deal with the fact that LASIK has now
"corrected"
0.4% of the spectacle marketplace worldwide.

| Your point is well taken, but if optometrists charged $1,250 to $2,500
per eye for contacts, I dare say they would not be quite so prevalent.
But optometrists would probably be much happier!

| It doesn't matter how many contact or glasses wearers there are. That
still doesn't change the number of lasik surgeries performed over the
years. Even if lasik is 4% of the market, 10,000,000 is still
10,000,000.

| You seem awfully concerned about market share. That is because your
interests are entirely financial. Market share is irrelevant LASIK
is hurting optometrists however, which is unfortunate. The rules
governing optometrists are ridiculously conservative. OD's are not
permitted to do much. With yoyo's such as the eye doctors that infest
this group, I can understand why they are under such restrictions.
For the third time in 2 weeks, I'm going to point out that the number
of LASIK procedures is approaching 10 million and it is astonishing
that there are so few complaints.
I'm also surprised that more people aren't wearing contact lenses.
There's over a billion significantly nearsighted people worldwide.
Let's just hope that very few of those billion people have the
misfortune of being one of your patients. Aside from everything else
about you - including the fact that you are mentally ill - you are
very dangerous because you actually believe that you are some sort of
expert in eye care. You should stick to your phoropter and keep your
mouth shut. Furthermore, you lack any common sense and have a
distorted sense of reality.
Let's see if I can be as childish as Dr. Minarik. hmm..he called me
Ragamuffin.. nah.. I won't stoop to his level.

| That's another point... the markup on glasses is incredibly high.
They have to be custom made, etc. The markup on contact lenses is
practically nothing. Which is unfortunate for ODs.
