| VISX STINK
"O'Brien is the one EVERYONE will refer you to. I see O'Brien on Monday; I
have to, everyone just refers me to him. I have been in his office since
February (w/his asst); I met him briefly, asked him what went wrong, he said
he'd love to discuss but was late for a meeting, & was gone. He is very
affable & w/an impeccable resume (Wilmer, etc), pic on USA today, etc, etc.
He is paid by VISX (& CustomVue VISX) to be its chief ! medical
'investigator' - that does NOT mean that he is interested in exploring &
investigating the problems w/ & caused by the laser he is employed by. He is
essentially paid by the laser company (which, incidentally, is largely owned
by the 1 & only Carl Icahn, whom you probably recognize as a corporate
raider - I was doing a restricted securities valuation for a lawyer for one
of his holding cos when I realized that - he's a scumbag, spends all his
time in courtrooms) essentially to serve as the person to whom any & all
VISX drs can send to when a procedure produces bad results. So O'Brien
spends all his time essentially telling people everything is ok, procedure
was done correctly, evading any questions (in a nice way), being very
ambiguous/guarded in anything he says, etc. He has been doing this for yrs &
has it down to a Science! I've spent a LOT of $ in his office & will do so
again on Monday. (The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota referred me to O'Brien). A
laser dr in Sarasota, FL said, well I could probably tell you what was
wrong, but I'd rather you go see my buddy Terry O'Brien. The local corneal
ophthalmologist (who used to do LASIK) refers people to O'Brien. The local
retinal specialist refers people to O'Brien. I can't go anywhere in this
country w/o a dr checking the region that I'm from & instructing me that I
need to see him. It's like a rule amongst them to send their 'problem cases'
(at patient's expense) to one of several specified/designated paid VISX
'cover guys' throughout the country. They know the game. You will not be
able to see a laser dr in this part of the country (Eastern half of US) w/o
being told to see Terrence O'Brien. That's just the way it is. What a
system; they've really got this thing sewn up."
