Thought I'd give you a update on my 1 year checkup.

Am still seeing 20/10 in both eyes so can't complain about that. Doc said
the flaps are very hard to see now since they have healed well. Like to hear
that sort of news. I complained a little of the halo's and she said there
wasn't much she could do about them but did give me some Alphagan drops to
use sparingly and carefully. Rebecca once suggested this to me also. I only
want to use it on occasions when I need to do a large night drive. Not very
often now days. I still get a little dry eye but did before surgery also so
no big deal.

Over all I am still extremely happy with my results. They are not perfect at
nights but in the day I couldn't ask for anything better.

My advice for anyone thinking of getting lasik would be to do your homework
first, don't do it if you are a higher risk candidate, don't expect perfect
eyes (although the result will probably be close to it) and above all find a
Doctor you can trust. Don't choose your Doctor on price. If your a low risk
candidate then go for it. The operation is painless and a breeze. Its over
before you know it.

Wal

Thanks Glen.

Well I don't contribute much here. My only input is from my own experience
of Lasik. I enjoy reading others experiences good and bad. Unfortunately we
mainly only see bad cases here. Funny how a handful of the bad cases seem to
hang around and we hear the same stories over and over again. They can't
accept the incredibly high success rate of Lasik but instead want to pollute
this ng with there exaggerated tragic stories.

Everything else here seems to be blown out of proportion and ends up in
flame wars.

You get these stories here that go on and on arguing about some tennis star
who can't see well enough to play at nights or some other important person
quoted as saying something negative about Lasik. They forget that we are not
all famous tennis players who need the 110% eye sight. Most of use are just
normal sorts of people (well I think I am pretty normal - grin) who want to
rid ourselves of glasses/ contacts.

To most of us Lasik is a small miracle.

Glen your the one who needs to be thanked for your input. You continuously
give sound advice to people and don't seem to ever get tired doing so. Don't
know where you get your patience from.
Thanks mate.

Thanks for the kind words Wal. The truth is, I do lose my patience.
Previously my responses when fed up were on this newsgroup. I've now
taken a more definitive response by other means. I need patience with
that too as it takes a long time.

Dear Wal,
I once posted that Lasik was a "miracle" and got pasted for using a
"biblical" type reference to describe how I felt. That is how stupid
it gets sometimes! Having your sight restored is a miracle as far as I
am concerned! Before having Lasik, I could see about 30 centimetres
clearly. I was having a terrible time with GPC (giant papillary
conjunctivitus) caused by my contact lenses. I was looking at having
to wear glasses only. At -6.50 in each eye, my glasses were starting
to get quite thick. As a female who looks after herself, the idea of
wearing only horrible thick glasses was unnacceptable. However I did
not go into Lasik lightly. I researched thoroughly and went with a
clinic that had done Lasik on 3 of my husbands workmates. As police,
they cannot afford to take risks with their sight. All were a few
years out and were happy. I paid top dollar ($2000 per eye). I believe
that I have probably recouped that money by now because I do not buy
contact lenses and glasses.

You are correct when you say that a handful of bad outcomes post here.
I cannnot imagine anything more terrible than having a bad outcome
when it come to your eyes, but it's rare. I also believe that there
are some questionable practices that go on in the Lasik industry (not
so much in Australia, but definitely in the U.S).

Linda

Linda,

If you consider that your lasik outcome is a miracle, don't let anyone
put you off from saying so. Frankly, from where my vision was, and now
where it is, I would consider it a miracle too.

Yes pathetic isn't it.

I will second that.

Yours were way worse than mine. Think mine were only -1 with some
astigmatism but they were bad enough that I had to wear glasses for
everything I did so really not so different in that respect.

I paid $4800 for both mine so you got a bargain!! <g> Actually I priced
around Brisbane and the prices were within $100 of each other.

Yes I agree. We don't seem to have the cut price outfits here like they seem
to. Most Eye Docs here have plenty of work and money coming in without
having to do unethical things like we hear about in this ng. I talked to my
Doc last week about some things and she said she only picks the very best
candidates with very high chances of success. This way she hasn't had any
major dramas. The dramas she has had so far have all been able to be fixed
with enhancements like you I guess Linda.

Wal
