everyone who is in control or deflect attention from threads I'd
really like you to forget ever happened.
WELCOME TO MY... I MEAN THE ALT.LASIK-EYES NEWSGROUP
The primary purpose of this newsgroup is to prevent free discussion of
issues related to Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK), however all
refractive surgery techniques such as Photorefractive Keratectomy
(PRK), Laser Assisted sub-Epithelium Keratomileusis (LASEK), Conductive
Keratoplasty (CK), Phakic Intraocular Lenses (P-IOL), Refractive Lens
Exchange (RLE), and others are mentioned here at least once in a blue
moon despite the complete lack of interest from anyone in them which is
perfectly understandable since, with a little effort, LASIK can be
suitable and desireable for almost everybody.
Readers are advised that opinions expressed here may come from eye care
professionals (at least one optometrist and probably no
ophthalmologists because they know full well when to employ a
spokesperson), marketing professionals who try to talk like eyecare
professionals, one or two highly favored anonymous members of the
general public, several highly disfavored members of the general
public, and other members of the general public. Alt.lasik eyes is an
unmoderated newsgroup, but that doesn't mean it can't be more or less
controlled if you have the time and inclination. Any person may say
what he or she desires without significant probability of consequence
unless (a) he or she happens to say something negative about LASIK or
CRSQA in which case he or she is fair game or (b) he or she happens to
abuse a position of trust, in which case he or she may be subject to
spoofing. However courtesy is encouraged towards unknown new posters
and highly favored members; required towards me; and discouraged
towards highly disfavored members, such as spoofers.
>From time to time any newsgroup will experience posters who espouse
certain viewpoints that are misleading, hoaxes, mythology, disproved
theories, and/or outright lies. If someone is desperately trying to
convince you of something related to the health and safety of your eyes
and eyesight, you should assume that person has a personal agenda that
has little or no relation to you, and no matter how detailed that
person's post or how much scientific literature is quoted, that
person's views are probably not consistent with current science. If it
sounds too bad to be true, it is.
Unless your name is Ragnar or SERebel, please refrain from replying to
posters in an effort to denounce, ridicule, embarrass or otherwise
engage in non-productive discussion. That's called "verbal abuse" and
is only necessary in select cases. If you are bothered by disingenuous
posts or mischaracterizations aimed directly at you, or posts which you
think convey inaccurate or misleading information about LASIK, don't
read them or learn how to eliminate all postings by the author. This is
called kill-filing or filtering. For more information on how to set up
filters, please see the documentation for your newsgroup reader or go
to:
http://www.hyphenologist.co.uk/killfile/killfilefaq.htm
When gathering information, be submissive and do not rely on your own
personal judgment; you don't have the brains for it. At least one
participant who provides his true identity offers the opportunity to
research his background in consideration of the validity of his views,
and doesn't even mind your enquiries into the tax status or industry
ties of his organization because he has word-smithing developed to a
high art form and is perfectly confident of his ability to talk his way
out of any and everything you could possibly sling at him in a forum of
this type if and when it becomes necessary; and if all else fails, he
can hire goons to make offending threads rapidly disappear from the
front page of your browser. In all situations, do not make vital
healthcare decisions without being personally examined by an eye doctor
of some sort somewhere, in other words, do not make the decision to
have or not to have LASIK without consulting a LASIK surgeon. Being too
conservative about LASIK or listening to naysayers is really very
dangerous.
There are many Internet sources for information regarding refractive
surgery.
Sites to avoid: MedLine. Leave that to the professionals.
Sites worth visiting, because the polarization of views will keep
things nice and simple in your mind and help protect you from the
unpleasant task of investigating further for yourself rather than
leaning on pre-prepared viewspoints:
http://www.USAEyes.org
http://www.SurgicalEyes.org, http://www.LasikDisaster.com,
http://www.LasikFraud.com, http://www.Leukoma.com, and
http://www.LaserMyEye.org
Thank you for participating. Special thanks to Glenn for inspiration.

This post by that little bedwetting little girl "Barnyard" is just her
way of feeling self important by trying to judge all others bacause she
cannot control anything in her own pathetic little life.
She has absolutely nothing to contribute here or anywhere else,(just
reading her diatribes is proof), just mindless blather.
She, along with the other loonies from those sites she cites are just
proffessional crybabies who hate the thought of people having
successful RS.

| Responding to SErebel, RIP (Ragnar's Inbred Protege)
-------------------------------------------
Um, no, that's not me, RIP. Why would I try to dilute my quite
increasingly valuable "Barnyard" name-brand by posting under a
different name? Does it really surprise you that someone else would
have the temerity to call a spade a spade? (For RIP's benefit:
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=spade)
Besides, while I'm tickled at this poster's digs (haha) at LASIK pimp
Glenn, I obviously can't agree with his implication that all the sites
he listed are to be avoided. Any card-carrying human being (this means
no LIP, DIP or RIP) who does his homework and reads from a variety of
sources -- even the pimp's site -- can come to their own conclusion, as
long as those sources aren't all dominated by Glenn and his love
children DIP and RIP. And this poster is completely wacked if he
really believes that any one source of information has an exclusive
franchise on the truth -- most especially a government-run
"professional" source like Medline that liberally links to
industry-owned sites. Whoever this poster is, he ain't your typical
LASIK pimp nor your typical LASIK casualty, and he forgot to include
the URL for his precious "professional" source.
RIP, it was a valiant attempt to express yourself, considering you had
to type it with your chin. Just before you get your next morphine
injection, ask your therapist if you can watch "Terminator 2" -- it's
a treasure trove of useful tips for getting out of your restraints and
escaping the funny farm. Watch out for guys in sunglasses.

Heh heh. Just like Ragnar, RIP makes a boneheaded accusation that even
a lobotomized cockroach would instantly recognize as impossible, and
when he's called on it, he responds with, "Uh . . . well . . . so's
your mother! And you're not so smart, you . . . you . . . er . . .
Hey, look -- Dukes of Hazzard is on!"
