| GERMAN OPHTALMOLOGISTS TO OPERATE ON TURKMEN LEADER'S LEFT EYE
Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov is to undergo an eye surgery
February 23. Famous German ophthalmologists will perform this surgery
in Ashgabat. The Turkmen leader announced it at a government session on
28 January "to avoid any wild guesses and gossips".
According to Niyazov, a group of six professors will come from Germany
to check the state of his health and operate on his left eye.
"There is no danger at all, the Turkmen leader said. Lately, I have
had some problems with my left eye and the German professors have
assured me that the operation will be successful and my eyesight will
be even better than before."
The head of state also said that he would have to take a week's rest
after the surgery in doctors' hands, the Ashgabat correspondent of
Turkmenistan.ru reports.
