Author CRSQA refuses to provide material information about itself on its website

CRSQA refuses to state on its website that it is a 501(c)(6)
organization - a business league. This, despite the fact that a
501(c)(6) by definition must have as its purpose the improvement of
business conditions in its industry, in this case, the refractive
surgery industry.

When challenged about this, Glenn Hagele (its executive director) will
say things like this:

"We have been in the process to change from our granted 501(c=AD)6 to a
501(c)3 status for...well...years."

(Yes, Glenn, and I have been a billionaire in process for... well...
years. I probably won't get there though till I start conducting
business in a manner consistent with earning billions.)

"The classification reall=ADy makes no functional difference in how we
operate so is not much of a=ADn issue. "

(Of course, it makes no functional difference to CRSQA because the
501(c)(6) is the only appropriate 501(c) classification for CRSQA's
business purpose, activities and funding.

What WOULD make a functional difference to CRSQA would be if it had
501(c)(3) status - as it long claimed it was in the process of getting.
If CRSQA were ever to become a 501(c)(3) that would require fundamental
alteration of CRSQA's business activities and funding sources,
something they obviously do not desire and therefore it will probably
be 'in process' for about as long as I will be a billionnaire 'in
process'.

And what the 501(c)(6) status DOES make a functional difference to
right now is the attitude and caution that people using his website
exercise. Oh, you mean they don't know? Yes, that's right, how could
they?)

When pushed into a corner Glenn might make a slip and say something
like:

"If anybody has a problem with the fact that we are a 501(c)6=AD rather
than a 501(c)3, then they should not use the services we pro=ADvide."

(Yes - sneer - and no doubt you make your 501(c)(6) classification
prominently available - and comprehensible - to each and every consumer
who reads the CRSQA website, seeks a referral or uses a CRSQA surgeon.)
If 501(c)(6) truly didn't matter, why would he hide it?

You really should add to your "I am not a doctor" that "I am not a
patient advocate, nor is the CRSQA." Your status as a 501(c)(6) is
relevant as others have said "several times already." And yes, you do
not need to respond anymore on this. It will be up to some on this
board to remind newcomers periodically what the CRSQA really is and
what your real role is on this board.

I have not had a refractive procedure so I am not vested to any
outcome, either good or bad. In addition, I have no vested interest in
any refractive procedure or related organization. I am an ophthalmic
clinical expert and have grave concerns about how refractive surgery is
being marketed to unknowing and trusting consumers.

Well, you've flapped your lips and uttered many words, but you still
have not replied to the question you were asked.

Why, on your web site, is there NO mention at all of your true purpose
and tax-exempt classification, but instead, you claim that "CRSQA is a
non-profit public benefit corporation," and that "the purpose of CRSQA
is to educate the United States public on the efficacy of refractive
surgery and the availability of qualified refractive surgeons."

The truth is this:

CRSQA is a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation, classifed under IRS tax
code as a 501(c)(6) trade organization, whose purpose and activities
are directed to the improvement of business conditions of the
refractive surgery industry.

Hiding your true purpose and tax-exempt status makes CRSQA no more, nor
less a trade organization than it is, any more than hiding your
glabrous pate under a rug would make you any more, or less hirsute than
you are.

CRSQA represents CRSQA surgeons and Glenn Hagele. Period.

Whatever limitations I may have, and whatever limitations CRSQA may
have, at least I clearly state who I am and who I represent for all to
see. You, and several others in this newsgroup, choose instead to
hide behind a nom de plume. I can only assume this is because you do
not desire to suffer the consequences of your acts.

Actually, the above language is exactly what was submitted and
accepted by the state of California and the IRS in determining our
nonprofit status. It is also what we do. Your opinion otherwise is
not consistent with the facts.
