Author PRK and steroid drops?

Can anyone explain why steroid drops are used if the epithelium layer is
grown back and no more possible infection is present?

Are they used to stabilize the vision as to not regress?

Are they for healing minute details like extra haze that maybe there?

Why does the Army use them for 4 months?

What steroid percent is common like 1%?

How many drops per use per day are commonly prescribed?

I am mainly concerned about overuse that may lead to acquiring cataracts
earlier then planned!

Steroids are to slow scar tissue formation. Scar tissue will distort
the shape of the cornea, causing funny optics and substandard vision,
it can also cause regression in your prescription. You really want to
keep the drops up.

Steroid cataract is not an issue as you are not using them long enough
to do harm.

As far as the percentacge of the drug, many are 1%, it depends on the
type of steroid specifically. You will most likely be on the acetate
form that has lower penetration into the eye and is safer against
cataract.

As far as dosage goes, do whatever your doctor says, and do not vary
the dosage or yo can get into strife.
