Both my parents do not have myopia. I must have had a mutation or a bad
luck of the draw.

| Need correction for near vision after age 50: about 100%
Need correction for myopia: an estimate of about 40-45%.

| If your a myope or have monovision you can put off reading glasses,
some forever. But they may need distance glasses. I read that 62% of
americans need glasses and in Japan 80% are myopes and most of the 80%
wear glasses part or full time. Everyone in my family wears glasses

| Without looking it up... I believe it is about 15% of citizens require
corrective measures to achieve the minimum 20/40 to drive.
That figure isn't very scientfic though... many people never have
their vision checked.

| Dont forget many people who arent 20/20 have such a small refractive
error they still dont need glasses or they do just for driving. My
brother only needs glasses to drive and many of my friends are -1 or
less so they never need glasses. Most of the myopes are very low myopes
and the majority of myopes have less than -3 diopters so they only need
glasses part time.

My myopia is -2.5 in both eyes and i need glasses ALL THE TIME, it used to
be -2.25 3 years ago and i needed it all the time.
My parents do not have myopia, IT must be a mutation or because of
astigma caused by mixed race or somehting

Myopic isnt always genetic. Bad vision habits can cause myopia. If you
did alot of reading when you were little and got glasses and countinued
reading even with glasses this no doubt helped worsen your eyes. Your
still wearing glasses even to read where you shouldnt. -2.5 diopters is
clear from 16 inches(and less) So try to make it a habit NOT to wear
glasses for anything 16" and less. Its not unusual for people more than
-2 to wear glasses full time. I think I started wearing them full time
once I got over -2, although I probably shouldnt because now im a -4.5

Okay, but your vision of -4.5 settled around age 25 and did not get worse.
In addition, you are also saying that people who wear contacts should take
them out when reading lots of things then put them back in after they are
finished?

I'm sure Ace will now that you've suggested it!

| "A recent study in Hong Kong showed what other studies have
shown - wearing less than a full correction will slow the
progress of the myopia."
This is a quote from Otis. I also see stuff like that in my vision
improvement book. My vision slowed down its decline around age 18 but
this is normal for most people. I also remember not updating my
pescription for 3 years, from 18 to 21 so while I didnt know I was
doing a good thing, my eyes only got -.25 diopters worse then I got new
glasses at 21 and it got another -.25 diopters worse. Now that ive
learned, im never getting overminused glasses. almost a year ago I was
tested at -5.5(left) and -5(right) now after all those months of
exercising my eyes and undercorrecting me I see pretty much fine with
-4.25 glasses(both eyes) and I see my BCVA with -5(left) -4.75(right)
glasses which I got when I was 21. My -4.25s are only a tiny bit weak
but they wont be as I resolve more pseudomyopia.

Nah much easier to take reading glasses with you at all times. Some
people seem to do fine with monovision but I cant stand it, its like
looking thru one clear eye at a time. I am much happier undercorrecting
both eyes then I dont need reading glasses. Personally, I just stick
with glasses because I can take them off to read but with contacts in
addition to them not being comfortable I dont see too well from near
with my contacts so I still need glasses anyway if I wear contacts
which makes them pointless except for distance vision only.

your vision settled down at age 25, it was not because of whatever glasses
you were using, ace.

Vision and myopia settles down at around age 25, it will not get much worse
from that age.
Your study or whatever my be for younger peopel, i do not know, but your
views about vision and eye sight are somewhat silly kind of like
supertition

| Ace, take a look at what others have said about Otis over at the
sci.med.vision newsgroup. He has no credibility. His theories are
fully disproved. I'd say that quoting Otis from sci.med.vision has as
much validity as quoting Hanson from this group.
