| My right eye seems to be getting a little better now... so my worry was
for nothing. What I do wonder is this... is there that much difference
between lasik and lasek?? There are so many horror stories on this
forum usually pertaining to lasik... halo's, bad night vision, double
vision, loss of contrast, etc...
I had custom lasEk and while I am 20/15 (able to read usually half or
more of the 20/10 line) I almost feel ashamed to complain about my
right eye "only" able to read the 20/20 line! As far as contrast
sensitivity, halos etc... my eyes are WAY WAY better than they were
corrected with glasses. I don't know if this is true, but I was told
the "custom" part corrected higher order aberrations that cause things
like: poor contrast, halo's etc. All I know is I see kind of in "high
definition" how. SUPER clear, like an awakening type of thing. The
greens actually look greener, things look sharper etc. Its hard to
explain, but it is amazing! I just cant believe all of the lasik posts
about contrast problems and sucky vision in general. Are these rare???
Or is it just a certain group of guys that just post stupid stuff all
the time. The brent guy looks kind of kookie/gayish to me. Don't mean
any harm... it's just that I don't really trust his posts... they
almost sound.... well .... stupid. Sorry I don't mean to offend
anyone, I'm just being honest.

Hi, I love my Lasik results!!! However, I clearly remember how
everything seemed super clear also. This settled down after a while and
my vision became "normal".
I just cant believe all of the lasik posts

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

YES again!!!! The majority of anti Lasik posts are from 1 or 2 sources.
This makes it look as though there are far more people with
complications than there really are.

I think the best responses are from people who have experienced Lasik.
I hate all this cutting and pasting from medical journals, etc.. I
particularly hate when the articles that are used are several years
old.

| There are advantages and disadvantages to both LASIK and LASEK
(surface ablation). As a general rule, surface ablation techniques
tend to be slightly better outcomes, but only for those who are
appropriate candidates. If you have a high refractive error, LASIK may
be the better choice.
The issue of halos, poor night vision, loss of contrast, double vision
are pretty much even across the two primary laser eye surgery
techniques. The primary difference is that there can be no LASIK flap
complications if there is no LASIK flap.
I'm glad to hear you continue to progress and your vision is getting
better.
You may find it hard to believe all the anti-LASIK posts in this
forum, but there are people who do have bad outcomes. About five of
them dominate this newsgroup. In the real world, about 97% of
refractive surgery patients have no complications and the vast
majority would do it again and/or have recommend it to others.
In my opinion, not trusting what Brent Hanson says is possibly your
most important refractive surgery education.

| Theres alot of anti-lasik people who either themselves had a bad
outcome or their friends/family had one and speak against it. I know
about 100 people and counting who had bad outcomes and many are vocal
about it. Ive talked to a few ladies who told me NEVER get lasik and
one made me promise not to or ill ruin my eyes like she did and be
miserable forever. She was a "perfect" candidate and still had problems
like ghosting and poor night vision. She and others say the snellen
chart is quite meaningless, especially in respect to night vision. On
the flip side ive talked to some who loved lasik and told me go for it!
They raved about it and how nice its to be free of glasses! Im not
really antilasik like those malcontents but im a realistist who
seperates the hype with reality. Also theres some people that in my
opinion shouldnt get lasik but im not gonna stop them, its their eyes
to gamble. I know quite a few people who regretted getting lasik,
especially when others including doctors reccomended against it. One
lady was only a -2 and she posted a message saying she was thinking of
lasik. Every single person who replied said no way, bad idea, forget
it, wouldnt reccomend. They explained to her that at -2 she did not
have a strong dependance on glasses and that she can avoid reading
glasses by keeping her -2 pescription. Lasik will take away the gift of
myopia thats so good against presbyopia. Basically she will just trade
glasses when she becomes presbyopic. She got it anyway and had
complications and shortly afterwards, needed reading glasses as well.
Lasek is more forgiving than lasik because it doesnt use a flap so less
complications and less induded aberrations. You getting 20/20 in one
eye and 20/15+ in the other is an extremely good outcome. Better than
glasses because they minify and disort and some people are too lazy to
clean their glasses so they get dusty and smeared and this results in
haze around lights with smeared, dirty lenses. You could achieve better
vision than glasses with contact lenses(as they dont minify) and
especially RGP contacts. Many people say their lasik vision isnt quite
as good as glasses, even if the accuracy is the same, the quality isnt.
Someone whos really picky about vision and yet wants to reduce(or
eliminate) dependancy on glasses should look into RGP contacts. They
give you better vision than anything else, period.

I had LASIK and experienced the same thing. Everything was much more
colorful afterwards and my contrast sensitivity increased. It is amazing.
