Franklin County
Surgeon Stripped of License
Nov 11, 2005, 05:50 PM EST

For the first time, the state Medical Board has punished a laser eye
surgeon, stripping a central Ohio doctor of his license.

Board member Andrew Robbins says Dr. Vikas Jain of Newark became a
"predator," repeatedly mistreating patients. Robbins says Jain's
misdeeds included removing a cataract from a woman's blind eye,
operating on patients who shouldn't have received LASIK including one
who could see just fine, and using his operating equipment on the wrong
settings.

The state will inform the national Federation of State of Medical Boards
of its action, in hopes of preventing Jain from going elsewhere to
practice.

Jain did not appear at Wednesday's hearing. He can appeal to the
Franklin County Common Pleas Court.

Theres very little point removing cateract(s) from blind people. I can
think of one, when others see her eyes, they can see its cloudiness. As
for lasik on people that can already see fine, thats sad. I have
witness this myself. On asklasikdocs, this woman was 20/30, corrected
to 20/15 with -1 glasses. She only wore glasses to drive and sometimes
watch movies. Well lasik overcorrected her and now she cant see 20/20
even with plus glasses! Its the dumb doctors that said she was an ideal
candidate!

Another guy was 20/40 uncorrected, 20/15 with thin glasses and only
wore glasses to drive at night or play sports in the afternoon. Well he
got lasik and now is only 20/20 with decreased quality. He did say he
is happy so I guess he must be one of those with small pupils and lucky
ones who isnt half blind at night. I still think that lasik he did was
a waste as he did not even need glasses to function! I wonder if hes
seeing any better at night with his 20/20 lasik eyes than his 20/40
uncorrected eyes.

I still have a question for you eye, how well do you see now? 20/30?
What was your pescription before lasik and were you corrected to 20/15
with glasses? How large are your dilated pupils and how large a zone
did you get lasered?
