Author Off the topic of LASIK... opinions wanted on something...

I am even interested in what the malcontent nuts have to say about
this event which has nothing to do with LASIK or even eyecare.

A patient has a complaint about a surgical procedure which get
completely ignored. The patient goes in to the surgeons office and is
confronted by 6 staff members including the surgeon. The surgeon is
clearly overheard to say "Do not confirm any of his allegations even
if you know they are true".

First, what percentage of surgeons do you think would say such a
thing?

Second, the patient tells the surgeon minutes later that he was
overheard clearly saying those exact words. The surgeon forcefully
denies saying it. He could have admitted saying it or just not denied
it and kept his mouth shut, but he aggressively denied saying it or
anything like it at all.
Would you expect such a response from a surgeon? What response would
you expect?

The surgeon's I have worked with do not behave in such a manner. I am
curious to guage the opinions and perceptions of the layman.

This layman's perception is that wherever you go there's trouble.

I'm curious to know exactly what is the nature of your "work" with these
surgeons.

That reminds me.. the theatrical version of Curious George is coming
out soon. It's got to be better than any of the other movies put out
this year. What a stinker of a year for movies!

So far 2 replies to my message and no opinions offered which is what I
requested. But that is typical for this newsgroup.

That is my opinion, just like you asked.

Where you go, trouble follows.

I would expect anyone in a professional position to be just that,
professional. I wouldn't expect to over hear something like that and
then have it denied.

There are bad apples everywhere-

avoid surgeons who dont care about you and abandon you when
complications happen then they give an excuse saying they cant treat
you or itll get worse or just to give it time to heal then they keep
adding more time. A good, concious surgeon is perhaps the most
important aspect of lasik

I also like my doctor to be conscious (very important) and also
conscientious. LOL!!!

Ace, a good conscientious surgeon wouldn't be DOING LASIK in the first
place!

Ragnar,

Just a guess... 99% of refractive surgeons would say such a thing.

50% of surgeons in other disciplines would say such a thing. Surgeons
fear liability. Even when they screw up the 'risk management' groups at
their institutions, or their insurance malpractice advisors tell them
to admit nothing. Malpractice coverup starts as soon as a problem is
noted. Careful language is used by doctors so as not to admit
liability. Advisors are consulted. Colleagues are instructed not to
talk to certain patients/discuss cases.

It's just to hard to tell if a surgeon's next patient is going to be a
lunatic crybaby such as Eye.
