Author Barnard... among others

I read this newsgroup off and on a great deal, as I've been contemplating
some sort of RS for many years. I normally just lurk... however, I feel the
need to voice some opinions to you all.

Barnard - the stupid names you have generated are not only unimaginative and
childish; they're not remotely humorous. In fact, reading them is just
irritating, as are most of your posts. If you really don't have anything
useful to say about RS, why do you even bother wasting your time posting.
Seriously, I really don't think Glenn or anyone else really cares a tiny bit
about what you think.

Glenn, in my opinion, is one of - if not the - most helpful person on this
group. To be perfectly honest, Glenn generally seems to be the only voice of
reason. Whilst I appreciate RS can have devastating effects when it goes
wrong, I also know that when it does go wrong, people get very upset and
emotionally involved (cf. Keller and Hanson), and as such lose all sense of
objectivity. Yes I'm aware that Glenn has a vested interest in LASIK, but he
seems to be the only person offering sensible advice - unlike most of the
ridiculous scaremongering that goes on here.

RS does work for lots of people. I know 4 or 5 people personally that have
had RS and it has improved their lives dramatically. I don't know of anyone
that has had a bad outcome. Of course, I'm not implying they don't exist -
it needs to be appreciated that people with good outcomes don't spend
hours/weeks/months/years talking about RS on newsgroups - only those that
have complications do.

RS is SURGERY. Surgery has risks. I spent a month or so researching which
was the best new PC monitor to buy recently - common sense perhaps. I'm now
in the process of researching the surgery I'm considering having, so I will
spend a good while longer doing that. I'm sure I will be aware of all the
possible complications and outcomes. If people don't look into the procedure
they're having done... hmmm well, is 'stupid' too harsh a word for them?

Pete.

Pete, you're entitled to your stupid opinion. I don't give a rat's XXX
what you or anyone else thinks of me. And your attitude towards
"stupid" patients makes me physically ill.

Part of me wants to wish a catastrophic RS outcome on you, just for the
ironic humor of it all, but even I can't be that cruel. Instead, I
will tell you this:

Go blow yourself.
