November 8, 2004
Dear Past Visitor to Surgical Eyes,
I hope this email finds you well. For me, this past year has been one
of considerable change and reflection.
I founded Surgical Eyes ("SE") to be a place of support and
information to help heal those with unsuccessful results of refractive
surgery. I know from face-to-face meetings, phone calls and emails
with many of you that SE did make a difference.
I am thankful for the opportunity to have worked with the many doctors
and patients who helped make that difference.
SE is poised on the cusp of a new direction. I am no longer involved
and wish it continued success as a positive entity for patients and
doctors.
Earlier this year, I lent SE $4,000 to help it accomplish it's
mission. In total, I have lent SE just over $24,000. In addition, I am
owed back-pay of just over $32,000 for the year 2002 (please see below
for highlights). Exclusive of my loan, I donated over $1,000 to SE in
2003.
If SE was helpful to you under my stewardship, please consider making
a tax-deductible gift to The Surgical Eyes Foundation. You may specify
that all or part of your donation go to help SE retire its debt to me.
It's mailing address is: 533 South Howard Avenue, #842, Tampa, FL
33606. If you prefer to donate to SE online, please click here.
Even though I have moved on, I look back on Surgical Eyes as the best
outcome of my post-refractive experience. For the curious, I am not
studying to become a lasik litigator. Surgical Eyes was part of a
continuing personal quest to affect change through alternative dispute
resolution.
Thank you for facilitating the success of Surgical Eyes as a vehicle
for help and advocacy for the past five years.
Sincerely,
Ron Link
Founder
Past Executive Director
Accomplishments for year ending 12/31/02:
American Academy of Optometry meeting, San Diego, CA - December 12-14,
2002. Learning at Lunch. Aside from our booth, the SE luncheon was
one of the best features of being here. Docs who never met and SE
participating docs rolled up their shirtsleeves, checked their egos at
the door and got down to it by sharing observations, experiences,
asking questions, etc. The level of thought and sharing was such that
everyone had the experience that this kind of interaction truly
advances the cause of SE.
Northeastern US Support Group Meeting, New York City, NY -November 7,
2002 -Noon to 4 pm. Dr. Damon Ezekiel and Dr. David Hartzok shared new
developments in wavefront and other contact lens designs due to birth
from Gelflex headquarters in Perth Australia in 2003.
Southeastern US Support Group Meeting - Emory Vision Correction -
Atlanta, GA - October 5, 2002 - 4 pm to 9 pm. Presentations by Emory
doctors, manufacturer representatives and Surgical Eyes about the
latest in coming wavefront contact lens design, dry eye treatment and
surgical technology that may help those with longer-term complications
of refractive surgery.
Patient Advocacy. FDA Ophthalmic Devices Panel Gaithersburg, MD,
August 1, 2002. Ron Link & David Shell presented patient perspective
on prevention and need for monitored trials on post-refractive eyes.
The Panel recommended that Exclusion category in the Physician's
Information Booklet should include: patients with dry eye.
Pre-existing dry eye and/or large nighttime pupils may decrease your
satisfaction with the LASIK procedure and this issue should be
discussed with your physician. Opportunity to dialogue with doctors
Omar Hakim and Dan Drurrie about upcoming efforts in remediation. Dr.
Drurrie expressed his support of what was said by Ron Link regarding
the need for monitored trials on post-refractive eyes with regard to
wavefront.
Online Survey of Post-Refractive Patients Regarding Quality of Vision
Issues -July 22 - 29, 2002. Ron Link conducted simple survey for a
one-week period on the Surgical Eyes web site. Over 500 respondents.
Data provided to Dr. Gregg Russell for consideration and presentation
to manufacturers working with post-surgical contact lens design
proving that Surgical Eyes has the credibility and reach to continue
to assist medical professionals involved in research and remediation.
Consensus Building. American Society of Cataract and Refractive
Surgery, Philadelphia, PA. June 1-5, 2002. Ron Link debated Dr.
Stephen Slade at the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery
Convention to acquaint the ophthalmic community with the mission of
Surgical Eyes. Increased overall understanding of the proactive
mission of Surgical Eyes of working with the medical community.
Consulted with several leading physicians (Omar Hakim, Brian Boxer
Wachler, John Doane, Doyle Stulting, James Salz) about continued
sharing of remediation information for those with longer-term
complications on the Surgical Eyes Website.
Patient Advocacy. California State Medical Board, Sacramento, CA,
January 23, 2002. Ron Link advocated that disciplinary documents,
malpractice judgments, arbitration awards, felony convictions,
stipulations and non-disciplinary enforcement agreements should be a
matter of public record. Based on the recommendation of the Medical
Board of California, the CA legislature voted to require public
disclosure on the Internet of three or more settlements of more than
$30,000 in 10 years. The bill also required public disclosure of civil
judgments of any amount against physicians not overturned by appeal
including revocations, suspensions, probation orders, and limitations
on practice.
· Accomplishments for 2003 prior to my taking leave:
Contact Lens & Eyecare Symposium, Orlando, FL, January 24-25, 2003.
Surgical Eyes booth manned by Cindy Brunett and Ron Link. Dry Eye
Symposium by Dr. Holly.
Support Group Meeting, office of Dr. James Salz, Los Angeles, CA,
February 22, 2003. Dr. Silver, Dr. Schlanger, Dr. Rabinowitz, Dr.
Ginsburg, Dr. Boxer Wachler, Dr. Arellano, Brenda Ross, Ron Link.
Support Group Meeting, Will Vision offices, Portland, OR, May 3-4,
2003. Dr. & Carlene Will, Dr. & Marge Columbus, Evelyn Maizel of
Vision NW, Dr. Aboutalebi, Dr. Holly presentation by Allan Ross, Dr.

Maskin/Memorial Hospital, Tampa FL, June 21, 2003. Dr. Maskin, Dr.
Trattler, Dr. Russell, Dr. Hartzok, Ron Link.
41 new doctors were added to our list of medical professionals who
have the skill and commitment to working with people who have
longer-term complications of refractive surgery.

This is for real?
THUNK (sound of my jaw hitting the floor)
Maybe Ron should consider switching majors to accounting, because he's
going to need a good financial advisor to help him recover from his
losses. Or he should consider writing some of those Nigerian email
scams. Or take up plastic surgery so he can disguise himself and hide
from the embarrassment of financial failure of his organization and the
unbelievable chutzpa of making such a plea to "Visitors" of his former
website.
Good luck recovering anything Ron. My unsolicited advice to you is to
not hold your breath. Instead, take a very deep breath and start chasing
ambulances!

| Something below interests me. For one thing, Ron is saying he is owed
$32,000 back pay for the year 2002.. just what was his total salary
for the year if the unpaid part was $32,000?
He has enumated that he is owed back pay and also $24,000 in loans
which comes to a total of $56,000 he is expecting to get out of SE.
If he thinks he will see 2 cents of that, he's mistaken.
Loaning an organization money so they can pay one's own salary... does
that make sense? I think Ron's only alternative is to sue himself!
I hope Ron sues and gets every dime that Ron has! Ron can act as his
own lawyer and collect the 30% lawyers cut of the reward.
I hope Ron has learned his lesson... he should never have done
business with a sleazy conman like Ron.

| Laughing at your own stupidity. The money lent was to pay for the
operation of SE, not to to pay me. I have never encountered two people
more alike than Glenn and Christopher (aka Ragnar). Glenn Internet
gossiping for hours in cyberspace followed closely by his sidekick
Christopher (aka Ragnar). SE rebel, oops, perhaps the world would like
to know why you no longer posted at SE? Life is too short. Over the
years, SE received hundreds of letters of thanks from patients and
doctors. Borish twits aren't going to change that legacy. I've got
much more interesting things to study and work on than to continue
anymore than with this response.

| Bye Ron. Don't let the door hit you in the XXX on the way out. Have
fun suing your precious SE. You already embezzled all their available
funds with your "website maintenance fees". You have sucked them dry
already.
Thank's for sinking that ship of fools.
