OT - some advice please

Hello,

I am posting to this newsgroup as I have been reading it for a while and
have made posts to definitelypast, and I can't find a more relevant
newsgroup, if there is a more relevant newsgroup then please let me know.

Anyway, I am at my wits end,
I handed my glasses in to be repaired a month ago, they came back 2 weeks
later and they had been made into sunglasses! (that was a major mistake)
Anyway, I handed them back in, they took another 2 weeks to come back and
this time they were still wrong, they came back with such a light tint on
which I couldn't see.
(I have my glasses normally with quite a significant tint, its not as dark
as sunglasses but you can definetely see the tint when I put them on)
They reckon I ordered a B.80 tint when they were definetly not that light,
they were more like a B.65 (I am telling you these numbers in the hope that
they are standard)

Anyway, the optician is telling me all sorts saying that even if they send
them back to get a darker tint on, the tinting machine varies so they could
come back even lighter! and so on.. and that they wouldn't recommend the
darker tint anyway (which Is what I had)

What I am asking for is does anyone know how these tinting machines work,
all I want are my glasses back to normal again! Is that too much to ask,

anyway, thanks for reading my rant and if I have violated any of this
newsgroups charters then sorry but I am pretty upset.

I bet that cost you a fortune. That is typical though. Every person
I have ever seen get tinted lenses is not happy with them. Have you
tried POLARIZED lenses?
I would give up on trying to get your glasses tinted.

This newsgroup is so full of rants that your post isn't going to
violate anything that isn't violated a dozen times a day here.

Jayne,

I wouldn't have them tinted too dark anyway, it will cause your pupil
to open up in sunlight.
You may also want to go to a different optician to get what you are
looking for.

They were not overly dark, just enough to stop me getting headaches and
sickness

I was very happy with my tinted glasses thankyou!
I just want them back!

why? as that is what I originally paid for!

I'm a computer programmer, the reason I had my glasses tinted was
A) They look cool
B) They block out the glare from my monitor and flourescent lights ( I
suffer with severe headaches and sickness WITHOUT tinted glasses.) Go
figure...

Tinting is accomplished by soaking the lenses in a heated vat of dye, or
several vats of dyes to achieve the right color. The intensity of the tint
is determined by how long the lenses are left in the vat. Bleaching is
accomplished by soaking the lenses in a vat of bleaching solution. It is a
good practice to have samples of lenses in various grades and colors so the
patient can select the proper tint. It is also helpful to have the tinting
unit on the premises.

OK...I thought you were saying that your tinting didn't work, or
wasn't dark enough.
