LASIK: Dr. Daniel R. Peters

| I live in Spokane, WA and I am considering having LASIK done. I recently
saw this ad in the paper for Dr. Daniel R. Peters, it looks like he
recently joined King and Mockovak.
http://www.peterslasik.com/
http://www.kmlasik.com/
The advertisement was for $500 per eye using the VISX S4 laser. Has anyone
had LASIK done by Dr Peters? If so please give feedback positive or
negative.
His credentials look good:

The thing that concerns me is they don't provide success rates on their web
site or by phone. They just refer to FDA stats.
Thanks!

If you live within travelling distance of Vancouver BC, you might talk
with Dr. Lin or Dr. Holland (http://www.pacific-
laser.com/en/index.html). They are not inexpensive, and they don't run
huge, gaudy wraparound ads in the Sunday Seattle Times comics section,
but I have a feeling you'll get better assessment and treatment from
them.
The King & Mockovak ads are a real turn-off in my opinion. They give
off a vague bait-and-switch-y aura. K&M is no doubt a perfectly good
place to have LASIK performed, but if I ever need further surgery, I'd
go back to Dr. Lin without a second thought.

I for one am skeptical of this Doctor simply because of his rates. His
credentials appear good, and he has 16,000 lasik surgeries under his belt.
So I must ask: How can he offer bargin basement prices with the most
advanced laser? Usually, you pay more for a Dr. with more experience and
top of the line equipment. You pay less for a Dr. with little experience
and inferior equipment. This just doesn't add up. If nothing else,
consider that this laser has a 1 million dollar price tag, and your surgon
would have to do 1000+ surgeries just to break even at $500 per eye - and
that doesn't include paying his staff, rent on the building, electric bill
ect... Sounds fishy to me.
When I did the research in my area (California), the going rate averaged
$3000 for standard LASIK, and $4000 for Wavefront LASIK. As with anything
else, you get what you pay for.

| I don't have any knowlege of Dr. Peters, however, that group of laser
centers includes Dr. Rothman, and he is a disaster. You mention the
$500 price, it's nice to have a low price, but that is also a
tell-tale sign that they are a lasik mill that is lowening their costs
by using an assembly line approach and cutting corners. Also they
are pushing the idea that they have the "most experienced" doctors.
That is another tell-tale sign of a lasik mill.
Just upon the limited information, I would recommend you go somewhere
else.
One other interesting thing about that website... ONE of the doctors
is CRSQA certified, the other three are not. However, the website
implies that the entire chain of their centers are CRSQA certified.

Good point. If someone saw an ad for a prime rib dinner for 50 cents,
they should question if that is serving up beef or road-kill.

$500.00 an eye is more than likely a bait and switch. Beware!
